Seminars

Four interdisciplinary seminars bring together all Macaulay Honors College students in their first and second years.

Taught in a small discussion format, the Macaulay seminars emphasize close interactions between faculty and students and also group work among students studying different academic disciplines.

Each of these seminars uses NYC for primary research, hands-on learning, and an opportunity to explore the larger global community – past, present and future.

To provide a context for continued interdisciplinary research and shared learning, this year we are launching new junior-year seminars and a year-long research seminar for seniors. These seminars encourage students to integrate course work and their own primary research, as well as experiences gained through Macaulay co-curricular activities, including internships, studying abroad, and community service, in a richly collaborative and supportive interdisciplinary setting.

The Macaulay upper-level seminars will be held at Macaulay beginning in Spring 2008. These seminars are open to all juniors and seniors, and some sophomores, with permission. In order to register for any of these courses, students will need to work with their Advisors, and should start that process as soon as possible.

Any questions about specific seminars should be directed to the indivual instructors, and general questions should be directed to Dr. Sylvia Tomasch, Associate University Dean of Academic Affairs.

Because these classes will be held in Macaulay's new building at West 67th Street, students will have access to lounges, computers, wireless internet, snack bar, screening room, performance space, etc. -- as well as the stimulating cultural atmosphere of the Lincoln Center area.
