Macaulay Honors College

College of Staten Island

University Scholars at the College of Staten Island attend classes at CUNY’s largest campus. Situated on 204 beautifully landscaped acres, Macaulay Honors College at CSI offers the intimacy of small class sizes and individualized academic advisement. At the same time, the program affords access to all of CUNY’s and CSI’s resources, including an Astrophysical Observatory recognized by the International Astronomical Union as an official asteroid tracking station, more than 70 advanced science laboratories with state-of-the-art equipment, a cutting-edge electronic music studio, and the Center for the Arts, which showcases an array of professional and student productions. CSI’s campus features extensive indoor and outdoor sports and recreation facilities for student use and is home to numerous athletic teams that have won over 60 CUNY Athletic Conference championships.

Known for its commitment to the humanities, business, education, psychology, and the natural sciences, CSI offers students 38 different bachelor’s degree programs. Eminent professors publish and lecture on topics as varied as eighteenth-century English poetry, mathematical and scientific computation, Fragile-X syndrome and mental retardation, and Modern China Studies. CSI’s Honors faculty are selected for their outstanding academic qualifications, stimulating teaching styles, strong commitment to students, and desire to build an active intellectual community.

Macaulay students have the opportunity to conduct research at CSI’s many research centers and institutes, such as the Center for Engineered Polymeric Materials, the Center for Developmental Neuroscience and Developmental Disabilities, the Center for Environmental Science, the Center for Interdisciplinary Applied Mathematics and Computational Sciences, and the Center for the Study of Staten Island.

CSI’s honors program includes a student lounge and a designated computer lab. Both of these facilities provide comfortable spaces for group work, socializing, and meeting informally with faculty and staff. The close-knit community environment cultivates a supportive atmosphere that encourages debate and the exchange of ideas essential to nurturing academic and personal growth.
