Honors Directors

Honors Directors (who hold doctorates in various academic disciplines or masters degrees in higher education administration) have extensive teaching and advising experience at CUNY and elsewhere. Macaulay Honors Directors work closely with students, advisors and the Macaulay team to coordinate programs and course work that meets University Scholars’ individual intellectual ambitions. Like Honors Program Advisors, many Honors Directors are also actively engaged in research and scholarship.

Ianna Hawkins Owen ’08 (Africana Studies major, Spanish and Religion split-minor, Hunter College)--“I received a grant from the Honors College Opportunities Fund to start a website for a printing press that I am creating, called Say it Loud, Make it Plain Press, to publish radical student papers. I think it’s great that these resources have been made available for us to use creatively and I am really excited to get this project off the ground.”
Ianna intends to keep working as an activist and to pursue a PhD in Black Studies with the goal of becoming a professor at a public university because, as she says, “I believe education is a human right, not a private affair.”
