Outward Bound Day (Tuesday, August 19, 2008)

Q: When and where does Outward Bound happen?

Arrive at El Museo del Barrio at 8:30 am. El Museo del Barrio is located at 1230 Fifth Avenue at E 104th Street in Manhattan. Use the entrance on E 104th Street between Fifth and Madison Avenues.

Q: How do I get to El Museo del Barrio?

6 to 103rd Street; exit near the intersection of E 103rd Street and Lexington Avenue. Start out going west on E 103rd Street toward Park Avenue. Turn right onto Park Avenue. Turn left onto E 104th Street. El Museo del Barrio will be on your right on E 104th Street before you get to Fifth Avenue.

M1, M3, M4 northbound on Madison Avenue or southbound on Fifth Avenue to E 104th Street

Q: What do we do during Outward Bound?

Answer

You will work as a team to complete challenges while meeting upper level Macaulay students and getting to know your fellow classmates. There is even rock climbing and a little poetry at the end of the day!

Q: What do I wear?

Answer

You must wear closed-toe shoes; it is a policy of NYC Outward Bound. Wear clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty. It will be hot—you will get sweaty and grubby. Outward Bound is sensitive and adheres to religious requirements regarding clothing.

Q: What shouldn’t I wear?

Answer

You will be active. Your clothes may get dirty or ruined—please make sure that it is not something that you will miss. You will need to wear sneakers or closed-toe sandals—there will be a lot of walking and climbing.

Q: What do I bring?

Answer

You should bring:

  • A water bottle
  • Sunscreen (especially if you know that you burn easily)
  • A hat and/or sunglasses

Q: What should I leave at home?

Answer

Do not bring anything that you would be upset about losing. This includes jewelry, electronics, clothing or anything expensive.

Q: Will there be food during Outward Bound?

Answer

We will provide a breakfast bar and boxed lunch during the day but feel free to bring snacks and extra water.

Q: How do I get home at the end of the day?

Answer

The day ends at the Great Hill at W 106th Street and Central Park West. The closest train is the B, C at W 103rd Street and Central Park West.

Technology Day (Wednesday, August 19, 2008)

Q: When and where does Technology Day happen?

Answer

Technology Day begins at 12:00 pm at the Graduate Center on 365 Fifth Avenue (between 34th and 35th Streets). Enter and sign in, then head to the Proshansky Auditorium on the Concourse level (take the elevator down to the “C” level).

Q: What is the schedule for Technology Day?

12:00-3:00 pm Lunch, laptop distribution and advising session

3:00-5:00 pm Technology workshops

Q: How do I get there?

Q: What should I expect on Technology Day?

Answer

You will be receiving your laptop. A photo ID is required—no exceptions. You will be attending an advising session and a technology workshop led by an Instructional Technology Fellow.

Q: What do I need to do to prepare?

Theater Day (Thursday, August 21, 2008)

Q: When and where does Theater Day happen?

Answer

Arrive at 2:30 pm at Hunter College, located at 695 Park Avenue. Report to the auditorium, 1st Floor, North Building, entrance on E 69th Street between Park and Lexington Avenues.

Q: What is the schedule for Theater Day?

2:30-7:00 pm Welcome, theater workshops and dinner

7:00-7:30 pm Board buses to South Pacific (Vivian Beaumont Theatre, Lincoln Center, 150 West 65th Street between Amsterdam and Columbus Avenues)

8:00-12:00 am South Pacific

Q: How do I get to Hunter College?

Q: What should I expect on Theater Day?

Following the theater workshops at Hunter College, we will attend the Broadway performance of South Pacific (located at the Vivian Beaumont Theatre, 150 West 65th Street, between Amsterdam and Columbus Avenues). The show is approximately three and a half hours.

Q: What should I do to prepare for Theater Day?

Answer

Between August 4 and August 15 come to Macaulay Honors College and pick up your copy of the play, to be read before attending the performance. Also have your photo taken for your Cultural Passport ID. Ask for Sarah Stewart.

Q: Will there be food during Theater Day?

Answer

Dinner will be served but feel free to bring snacks and extra water.
