Actually no, my name is Stephen. And this is one of my first tries at keeping a blog-esque website thing. So it will be an interesting experience. And if your wondering about the title of the blog-thing, “argent”. Argent means silver in latin. It was also used in coat of arms during feudal Europe. It just reminds me of shiny and polished stuff.
For those of you who do not know me. I’m a sophomore at City College. Chemical Engineering major. YadaYadaYada. Since this website is for academic related work, I’ll refrain from discussing anything relatively personal.
I’m currently working a lab developing a more efficient dye-sensitized solar cell (DSC). Lots of chemicals to play with, mixing stuff, etc. Very hands on and that’s always better than sitting in a classroom lecture for 2 hours. Long story short, its a new type of solar cell (generation 2 or 3 I don’t remember), which remedies several problems that current silicon cells face, mainly stability issues and efficiency. It holds enormous potential to replace silicon cells and perhaps even be the solution to our energy needs.
If you haven’t figured it out by now, I’m thoroughly interested in energy research. In particular, solar and biofuel, both of which I see as possible alternatives to fossil fuels. Of course there are major issues that need to be worked out. And I would like to be a part of the team that resolves such issues. Of course that means tons of REU applications, including Germany and China. Lots of essays to write but in the long run, it’ll propel me toward my life-time goals.
What goals? Well in addition to being rich and famous, I want to create/discover something that will have a profound impact on the world and humanity. Something that crosses the line of politics and profits. Which is why I chose energy. It is a resource the world desperately needs. Not just the U.S. but every country. Even if I don’t invent the next generation of solar cells, I hope that my research will be the foundation of such developments. Basically, I’m hoping that whatever research I do will have a lasting impact in the scientific and engineering community.
And currently, I’m laying the groundwork for my future.
