Overall the Chelsea galleries were amazing! Probably one of New York's best kept secrets, to be able to see all of that... for free! I especially like the darker gallery, the one with a more gothic feel. It combined a refined elegant beauty with the grotesque that was interesting...to say the least. It had the Durer prints from the Renaissance, it had a deathbed that came out of a piano, a lot of skulls and dark imagery, and paintings with the serene bodies floating. That gallery had the the most impact on me. Honestly, I entered that gallery and left it in a completely different state of mind. It had some really beautiful pieces and some questionable pieces as well but overall the experience was phenomenal. These are some of my pictures.

Wow. You’re a very good picture-taker. :D
Now, I didn’t go with you guys on that Saturday. But I did go the next Saturday and I think I saw the same kind of galleries that you guys did. But you guys seem to have went to more. Sadly, I only recognize the picture with the red flags in it.
I remember there was a melting blue tree in one exhibit with like a hand on it and I thought that was pretty cool.
Then there was another exhibit where there were a bunch of white posters on the walls of a room and different things and words were drawn and written on in red. Some were very thought-provoking, like the one that is now my cell phone wallpaper entitled “I introduce myself as a mistake.” Then there were others that I didn’t understand and thought that a little kid did or something.
I think it’s really cool how these galleries are free. I think that’s the best way for artists to get themselves out there. Their purpose is to please the viewers and the viewers are already made happy by not having to pay to view their nice work.
That is all.

Neelu’s display clearly resuscitates our Chelsea trek with panache. But her solid work also brings up the question, “Is her photo of an art piece the same piece of art we saw in person, or is her photograph a new piece of art?”

That was exactly what came to my mind first when I saw Neelu’s photographs, Professor Judell. I was at the exhibits and I saw and remember all these paintings in person, but in these photographs, they look different. They have a different aura about them, making these photos, in my opinion, new pieces of art on their own. The galleries would have been more fun if it wasn’t raining out that day. I enjoy hanging out with the class and going to different places with them, but the weather definitely made the experience not as good as it was meant to be. Overall, the art was interesting and enjoyable.
