I can still imagine myself singing this song during the class presentation, and how ashamed I was of my horrible voice. I assure you, I sing much better in life. But really, why did I choose the song I did? What makes us really attracted to music that makes us say, "God that song is stuck in my head"?

What is music to me? Music is a pick me up, it is a drug, it is my mood, it's the way I express my emotion. Every time I feel depressed, I always listen to those particular songs, 'Summer Skin' by Death Cab for Cutie. Every time I am angry at someone, I listen to Linkin Park. Why are all these emotions joined to this music? I think it is because just like any form of art, it describes emotions that you cannot describe. For me, music has always given me the perfect words to say to someone.

For example, when it was my girlfriends birthday, I did not know what to say to her before I gave her the present, I couldn't just say, "Here you go, enjoy". I had to say something, write something for her, a poem, a prose something. And when everything failed, I turned to music and I sang her a song. Umbrella (Plain White T's version) and the song expressed everything I wanted to say to her. When it was our anniversary, I sang her "Hey there Delilah" because the song showed what I felt for her and it made the words much better because there was soothing music in the back.

I judge music by the lyrics, not necessarily just the beats in the background. What truly makes music in my opinion is the message it conveys, and yes the message can be different every single time, but it still does convey a message. I need to connect with the song, know what it's talking about to like it and some of my favorite songs are actually the ones I can most relate to.

So what really is music? It's the way I feel, only better, because it rhymes and has a cool rhythm to it.
