We have discussed that music is so much more than vibrating particles of air that undergo a series of compressions and expansion. They carry with them this power that revive emotions and feelings in us.

From my personal experience, music is able to bring back old feelings from the past; this kind of nostalgia every time one listens to this one song or rhythm. Suddenly, you hear this song that you used to really like in your childhood, listening to it now might bring back some of the emotions that you might’ve felt back then. However, it doesn’t have to be feelings that you felt in the past. It can be what you feel right now. Perhaps you are in love, every time a song plays in the radio, the one you love comes right into your mind. How does it happen? Maybe you have attached that song with your own feelings, in this case the feeling of love. This is power. Music is powerful.

To be honest, I felt that music was had a medicinal effect of calming down someone after a horrible school day, or a tumultuous work struggles. However, I now feel that music, like Antonio mentions, evokes emotions. I also feel that music tells a story. Now, although these stories usually sad ones, as I haven’t heard too many happy ones, I feel that they definitely inspire me more. Like when I am taking an exam, a tune seems to buzz in my head, helping me feel like I could do well.

I know this might be strange, but I like the feeling that music is simply more than plain vibrational effects. But, I agree with Professor Judell as well, that music sometimes is just for interest. I love classical music, because I find it calm to listen to, rather than the hard core rock and roll music.

Music, like Nihir said, is truly more than just “plain vibrational effects.” Depending on a song’s rhythm, tone, timbre, etc, a song can have powers ranging from calming someone down after a calamity to pumping an athlete up to win his eighth gold medal, as it did in Michael Phelp’s case. Some may find that rock music does this for them, while others may find alleviation in classical music, but in any cases most people will agree that music does things for them that nothing else can. Personally, i will use music to aid me in studying and to get over a hard period in my life. The beauty of it is what drew me into wanting to actually learn how to play it; i currently know how to play the piano and guitar, to a certain extent.
