October 2012 Meeting Minutes

1st meeting of the 2012-2013 Macaulay Scholars Council

Meeting Macaulay’s new Director of Marketing and Communications, Ms. Grace Rapkin re: “getting a handle on communicating with our students in 2012”

Grace introduced herself and ran a mini, informal “focus group” discussing what about Macaulay communication does and doesn’t work.

Introduction to the MSC website: THIS website! Please send your bio/picture/contact info to Kaitlyn so she can post it under “Your Reps” -> “Current Reps” (so your constituents know who you are and can reach you!) Kanika and Kaitlyn will then work on creating a 12-13 MSC listserv. Kaitlyn and Kanika are also happy to share editing privileges for this website with whoever wants to post their own info.

Setting the MSC meeting schedule for the rest of the semester/year  ***traditionally the Council has met once per/month, on Sunday afternoons (brunch included), usually with a 1pm, 2pm, or 3pm start – for a 2 hour meeting

Decided to alternate between 1PM and 3PM start to accommodate everyone’s schedule.

November meeting: November 11, 3PM
December meeting: December 2, 1PM

Establishing this year’s committees  ***in the past, this has included: Student Life, Community Service, IT/Communications, Academic Affairs, etc.

Kaitlyn O’Hagan proposed, and the council approved, a motion to create a committee to rewrite the MSC charter given recent changes (the creation of the College Council and the explosion of clubs/pubs at Macaulay). Kaitlyn will head this temporary committee, which will work to draft a new charter to be discussed and voted on at the November MSC meeting. Email Kaitlyn at kt.ohagan [AT] gmail [DOT] com to join this temporary committee.

Explanation of the College Council given; note MSC needs to find 5 more college council reps/alternates (1 from each campus, 2 from each grade = 8 total) until more official language about student reps/alternates and how they are chosen is added to the governance document of the Macaulay College Council.

Updates from Club/Pub leaders who are present: Kanika (Macaulay Messenger), Patryk (GA & Gastronomy), Marianne (Pre-Business), Tom (CUFF)

Confirming/coordinating/assisting re: upcoming events and programs including:

Though the event at Lincoln center has sold out, Macaulay is hoping to host the spillover in our screening room, as the “after party” will be held at Macaulay.

More info about the Halloween event for 2012 coming soon

Trying to coordinate again for 2012.
