Working New York

From nannies to the nail salon, from investment bankers to the taxi drivers that pick them up, we studied the people of New York, focusing on the work it takes to keep the city moving. To better study the behind-the-scenes aspects of NYC, we researched different groups of people in New York City.  Some of the people under study belong to groups that are imagined to be quintessentially symbolic of NYC—subway musicians, street vendors, teachers, transportation operators, and protestors. Our methodology is mainly ethnographic. This, our final class project is a collaborative website that explores how different groups make New York City what it is.
