I had heard about The Dinner Party some years ago without actually understanding what it was, so I was especially excited to see it at the Brooklyn Museum. The Dinner Party by Judy Chicago is a famous piece of feminist art. The piece took a total of six years to complete. It includes the names of over 1,000 women in history. The piece consists of 39 place settings at a dinner party in the shape of a triangle. Each place setting custom made to represent a significant woman in history and her achievements. A lot of the embroidery and other designs you see at each woman’s setting, in addition to that woman specifically, represent fertility and woman in general. The table lies on the Heritage Floor, which consists of 999 names of women. Looking at pictures of this piece of art is not nearly adequate. You must go see it for yourself!
