Macaulay Honors College Research Assistantships

Macaulay Honors College believes that one of the most important experiences students can have as undergraduates is to participate with faculty in ongoing research projects.   Students who participate in such projects gain invaluable experience working closely with an accomplished professional, learn research techniques appropriate to a discipline, and have opportunities that might lead to formal presentations, such as at conferences or in print or other media.
In order to provide such opportunities in the widest range of academic disciplines, we have set up a “matching” program, whereby faculty advertise research opportunities and students apply directly to them for the chance to work in their labs, in the field, in art studios, in archives, etc.  While it will be up to the faculty whether they accept anyone as a research assistant, we strongly encourage students to apply to those opportunities that fit their interests, majors, or future plans.

What can students expect from such opportunities? That they will learn through hands-on research experience under active supervision. Students may apply for a stipend through the Opportunities Fund.

What are students required to do in return? Everyone who is matched will submit a two-page report, describing what was accomplished and learned.  And everyone will also participate in a Macaulay event at which faculty and students will present the results of the work done together.
