Here are a few community guidelines for using the Macaulay eportfolios.
Who owns my eportfolio?
You own the content of your eportfolio. It is yours, all yours!
Who sees my eportfolio?
You have various privacy options that can be tailored to your needs. You can make your eportfolio completely public, meaning anyone can see it. You can make it semi-public so that only members of the Macaulay community can see it. You can also make it private, or you can make certain posts private by password-protecting them. We encourage you to leave at least some of the content public–who knows what sorts of cool people might read it!–but we trust you to make the best decision about the privacy that you need, and your friendly neighborhood Instructional Technology Fellow will be glad to help you think through the advantages and disadvantages of the different options. You can also change your mind and change your privacy settings as your eportfolio and your intended audiences change.
What can I say?
This eportfolio is for you to use however you like. You can say lots of things. There are relatively few things that we do not allow on eportfolios, which leads us to…
What can I not say?
We cannot tolerate discriminatory posts, language and/or slander. Do not use racist, sexist, or homophobic, or other bigoted language. Do not use your eportfolio to harass anyone, or do anything that is immoral, unethical, or illegal. Due to university regulations, we also can not allow direct commercial activity on any of the sites. Also, because we are a state-funded, public institution, sites can not endorse or support specific political candidates. And of course anything you post should be yours, or properly credited. Always give credit where credit is due (sing the Attribution Song)!
Remember that, depending on your privacy levels, many people will be able to read your eportfolio. Do not publish things that you do not want other people to read!
What if there is a disagreement or problem?
If there is a disagreement about the appropriateness of the content on your eportfolio, we will work with you to resolve it.
How long will my eportfolio last? Will it disappear after I graduate?
We are committed to keeping eportfolios indefinitely. You can still use your eportfolio after graduation. Because this is a WordPress site, you can also export/import your content to your own domain, or to another platform, should you so choose.
I have another question that is not answered here.
Just ask your friendly neighborhood Instructional Technology Fellow! Or you can even leave a comment right here on this page.

You have an image on your page of Charles Willson Peale’s painting “The Artist in His Museum” and have the credit line wrong. That painting is owned by the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and it would be appreciated if you could please correct your erroneous information. Proper credit information can be found here – http://www.pafa.org/Museum/The-Collection-Greenfield-American-Art-Resource/View-All-Works/Collection-Detail/89/let__P/artistId__2567/PageIndex__1/colId__6444/
Thank you.
Thanks for pointing this out! We definitely want to have the credits correct, and we’ve fixed the information on that image.
hello. i am a student at the uniersity and i want to make an eportflio for my research, but i don’t know what i should do? please help me. can provide a software for free to creat an eportfolio?
Our eportfolio system is for Macaulay students and alumni. If you’re a student at another university, you should check the options that your university provides.
I would like to know if it possible to change the titles of my sites on my Eportfolio account?
Also, I noticed that the search option on the Macaulay Eportfolio website does not completely work: when I change the option for how to organize (for example, alphabetically) the results, or when I try to go to the next page, it says “no [insert name of content] were found”. Refreshing the site only shows results for the first page. Is this an error with the website or with my internet browsers?
Thank you
Hi Kiran,
It’s very easy to change the title by going to the dashboard and then looking under Settings–>General. This changes only the title, not the URL–that’s something that can’t be changed.
I’m not sure about the search problems. I’ll look into it.
Thank you,
I forgot to specify that the problem occurs only in the specific searches for members and groups. I tried to organize the entire lists according to the options given (alphabetically, last active, etc.), but the website would not let me go past the first page.
The general search option works fine.
Hi Kiran, Can you post or email me a link to the page where you are trying to search and getting errors? lbrundage@gmail.com
Hi Kiran,
We’ve got the search problem fixed! Thanks for pointing that out.
