Welcome

“Beauty is truth, truth beauty,” – that is all
Ye know on earth, and all ye need to know.”
–John Keats

“We all know that Art is not truth. Art is a lie that makes us realize truth, at least the truth that is given us to understand. The artist must know the manner whereby to convince others of the truthfulness of his lies.”— Pablo Picasso

“Truth is a fire, and to speak the truth means to shine and burn.”— Gustav Klimt

“Of all lies, art is the least untrue.”–Gustav Flaubert

What is truth?

This class will explore the arts in New York City–but more than that we will be looking at art a different way of knowing the world, and ourselves. Art as a way of explaining and exploring and experiencing the truth (whatever that means…which we’ll have to decide).
