Creating and editing posts

The main way you will produce content for this class is by creating and editing posts.

==Creating a new post==

To create a new post click on the “Add New” link under the “Posts” section on the right hand side of the screen.  If the “Add New” link is not visible move your mouse over the “Posts” section heading and click on the down arrow that appears.

On the “Add Post” admin panel, enter the name of the post and the post’s body.  You will notice a toolbar above the edit window.  As in Microsoft Word and other word processors click on items in that toolbar to format text.  The toolbar does provide some additional functions.

==Setting the Category==

Most of the posts you create are associated with an assignment.   FOR THESE POSTS YOU MUST SELECT THE APPROPRIATE CATEGORY.   IF YOU DO NOT SELECT THE APPROPRIATE CATEGORY, THERE IS NO WAY TO KNOW THAT YOU HAVE COMPLETED THE ASSIGNMENT.

To set the category simply click on the appropriate checkbox in the categories section on the left hand side of the screen.

You can test to make sure the post is categorized appropriately by going to the relevant topic page and clicking on the “view responses” link under the chosen assignment.  If your post appears, it is categorized appropriately.

== Publishing a post ==

When you are ready to save your post, you have two options.  First you can click on the “publish” button on the left hand side of the screen.  If you publish your post everyone can see it.  Second, you can save a draft by clicking on the “Save Draft” button also on the lefthand side of the screen.  If you save your post as a draft you are the only one who can see it.  You can publish any post saved as a draft by editing the post and clicking on the “publish” button.

== Editing a post ==

To edit a post click on the “Posts” link in the “Posts” section on the left hand side of the dashboard.

You will see all posts.  To view just your posts, you can choose your name from the authors drop down list directly above the list of posts and click on the “Filter” button.

To edit any of the posts move your cursor underneath the post’s name and click on the “edit” link.
