Saint Petersburg, 1905. Behind the gates of the Karenin Palace, Sergei, son of Anna Karenina, meets Tolstoy in his dreams and finds reminders of his mother everywhere: the vivid portrait that the tsar intends to acquire and the opium-infused manuscripts Anna wrote just before her death, which open a trapdoor to a wild feminist fairy tale.
The Book of Anna is the latest from renowned author and Macaulay Distinguished Lecturer Carmen Boullosa. The author of seventeen novels, fifteen collections of poetry, four plays, two collections of short stories, and one screenplay, Prof. Boullosa was awarded the Rosalia de Castro Award by PEN Galicia in 2018, Café Gijón Award in 2008, and the Xavier Villaurrutia Prize in 1989.
