Macaulay students who are in good standing and have interests in graduate study in the humanities and social sciences may, in their junior year, apply and be provisionally accepted to the CUNY Graduate Center’s M.A. in Liberal Studies (MALS) Program .
Accepted students will be permitted to take up to 12 credits towards the M.A. degree during their last three semesters at Macaulay, allowing them to complete the remaining 18 credits and the MA degree in just one year after the bachelor’s degree.

MALS classes are held at the CUNY Graduate Center, on 34th Street and Fifth Avenue (across from the Empire State Building) in Manhattan.
MALS requires a current unofficial transcript (from CUNYFirst), two letters of recommendation and a personal statement. The application does not require the GRE or any other test score, and for Macaulay students who attend an information session (schedule is here), the application fee of $125 will be waived.
In addition to the MALS classes for a student’s specific program, MALS students are also permitted to take doctoral-level courses at the CUNY Graduate Center, from some of the nation’s leading faculty in a range of disciplines.
