Anna Katkovskaya

“Macaulay allowed me to travel to study in Florence, while also having the opportunity to explore my interests in taking different classes at Hunter, while graduating debt free.”

She is a member of the Macaulay Dancers, a history major and has a minor in chemistry at Hunter College. Anna Katkovskaya literally “stumbled” into her career choice.

“As a dancer, I was injured a lot, and when that happens, you can’t do what you want to do. I eventually discovered, and did research at, the Harkness Center for Dance Injuries at NYU, which specializes in treating dancers and learning about preventative measures to take so that dancers like myself do not get injured as much.”

Anna’s discoveries in her research will likely help others. She will present her findings on these preventative measures in July at the Performing Arts Medical Association. Still, she also has been an outstanding history major. She received the department’s Helen Witmer Prize for excellence in the study of history. Anna’s grounding in history comes from attending the H.S. of American Studies at Lehman College. However, her work at the Harkness Center and volunteering at NYC’s Bellevue Hospital convinced the history major that her future should be in medicine.

Due to her success in school, and her MCAT scores, Anna will begin studying at the Albert Einstein School of Medicine this coming Fall.

Anna knows that in the future she wants to work with underserved populations, whether it be dancers “who often do not receive the proper care they need” or communities like those in her native Bronx. “I came to Macaulay because I heard so much about the great opportunities they offer, while living in the best city in the world, and it was definitely true! Macaulay allowed me to travel to study in Florence, while also having the opportunity to explore my interests in taking different classes at Hunter, while graduating debt free. I am very grateful.”
