Black History Month @ The African American Museum of Nassau County

Come join Baruch and Queens College as we take a trip to The “Joysetta and Julius Pearse African American Museum of Nassau County” also known as the African American Museum of Nassau County. This museum opened in 1970 and it is dedicated to showcasing local and national African American artists. The mission of the museum is to promote understanding and appreciation of African American culture, art and tradition through education, interpretation, exhibitions, collections and programs for the enrichment of the public; with an emphasis on Long Island. The museum’s vision is to continue to be an outstanding regional resource for African American historical information and preservation.

Participants will be treated to a guided tour of the museum with a short video to enhance the visit. Lunch is available for those who wish to arrive early.

This event is to specifically celebrate and experience cultural spaces in new neighborhoods. Spend a Monday afternoon with fellow Macaulay Scholars to learn more about the experiences of African Americans on Long Island.

The museum is easily accessible by driving or by taking the LIRR to Hempstead (5 minute walk away).
