Industry Talks: A Networking Night With Media Professionals from CBS, NBC, The NY Times and More!

A Networking Night with Media Professionals from a variety of companies. After a panel discussion, students have the opportunity to meet each of our speakers face to face (virtually) for insight into the Media & Entertainment industry.

Seating is limited. Please register. CUNY students and alumni are welcomed to attend as well.

Speakers:

Essence Dashtaray
Corporate Lead, Talent Acquisition Senior Manager at ViacomCBS

Essence Dashtaray currently serves as a Corporate Lead, Talent Acquisition Senior Manager at ViacomCBS. She is responsible for delivering holistic strategy for the companies Campus & Early Career Programs including recruitment, programmatic elements and retention for business segments across the company in areas like Ad Sales, Research, Business Development & Strategy, Distribution and Law. In addition, she manages recruitment processes for ViacomCBS’ portfolio of entry-level roles and post grad rotational programs within the corporate space. At ViacomCBS, she is an active member of The BEAT+, the black employee resource group and Viacommunity, the community service arm. She is a graduate of James Madison University where she majored in Communication Studies and minored in Sports Communication and Human Resources.       

 

Karan Chachlani

Manager of Product Innovation & Strategy, NBC Universal

Karan Chachlani is a manager of Product Innovation & Strategy at NBCUniversal’s Peacock streaming service, where he works on strategizing and activating innovative product solutions to enhance the platform’s advertising and viewing experiences. He previously worked at ViacomCBS in roles across ad sales and marketing, distribution, and content acquisitions. Karan graduated from the Macaulay Honors program at Hunter College (’18), where he majored in economics and minored in computer science and media studies.


George Torres

Chief Engagement Officer,
Sofrito Media Group

George Torres is an award-winning bi-lingual social media / cultural consultant, who in the late ’90s, captured attention on the internet with his personal mission statement of “connecting Latinos to their culture”. George has always drawn inspiration from his personal connection to his cultural heritage. Having been raised alternately between New York and Puerto Rico, he was a living embodiment of the Nuyorican experience earning him the nickname “Urban Jibaro”.

George’s creative vision is the blueprint for Brooklyn based Sofrito Media Group and it’s growing portfolio of new media products and services. He has almost 25 years of experience in developing branded projects that appeal to the Latino / Hispanic segment. These include the longest-running online blog Sofrito For Your Soul, Radio Capicu as well as Capicu Poetry & Cultural Showcase, a partnership that develops and produces live cultural events.

In addition, he has been developing Social Media Mastermind classes to train entrepreneurs and their support staff to embrace effective and measurable storytelling and relationship-building culture in their businesses.

Most recently, he has taken a community engagement role in a grassroots initiative called Nuestro Ideal to create sustainable farms, build capacity with local organizations and spark entrepreneurship initiatives on the island of Puerto Rico in direct response to the Hurricane Maria crisis.

 

Dylan Campbell

Assistant Producer, The New York Times

Dylan Cambell is an Assistant Producer for the New York Times, Games. She works at the intersection of product and content. Before this role she was a morning news producer for NY1 and an AP at WNYC, working on their smart speaker initiative. She graduated from Brooklyn College in 2018 with a degree in Journalism. She is a nerd for all things editorial process and is more than happy to show pictures of her dogs to any one who asks.

Allena Wright

Product and Brand Coordinator, Spotify

Allena Wright is a Product and Brand Coordinator at Spotify. Before that she was an Intern at Quantitative Scientific Solutions and then made Marketing Coordinator. She has a degree in Business Administration from Buffalo State College. She loves making playlists and brewing herbal tea at home.
