Professional Lunch Series Presents
Get Secured, Learn about Cybersecurity with Hugo Krawczyk, Cryptographer at IBM T.J. Watson Research Center
Hugo Krawczyk is a cryptographer working at the IBM Research division in New York. Cryptography is the mathematical science behind data security and information privacy. It is used billions of times every day by billions of people, in particular each time that one inputs some private information into a website, be it passwords, email, personal or financial information. Without cryptography there would be no email, social networks, Amazon, Venmo, online banking or even ATM machines. Hugo has had a lot of fun working in this area for almost 30 years and he has contributed to many designs used, for example, each time that your browser shows the lock icon next to an internet address. It has been a great opportunity to do math while seeing the results applied in a short period of time.

Hugo is thankful for an exciting career but most of all he is proud of his three Macaulay children: Liat’09, Noa’12 and Nir’17!
