Hey y’all! For the past year, I have had the honor of representing the best class from the best campus while on the Scholars Council.
This past year, I am grateful to have positively impacted the Queens and Macaulay communities by:
– Bringing vending machines to the Macaulay Honors Lounge at Honors Hall
– Initiating the precedent of lounge renovations, giving many people from all Macaulay Queens’ cohorts opportunities for community service (hopefully continuing in the upcoming year)
– Hosting a successful holiday party at the end of the fall semester
– Chairing an Ad-Hoc Committee that focused on amending the charter that the Macaulay Scholars Council abides by
– Being a member of the campus affairs committee and assisting in the creation of events such as the welcome back fair and the food and culture festival
Throughout my time on the council, I have come to understand both its strengths and its unfortunate flaws. Inclusivity is a major issue the council has faced– whether it be including students from various campuses or cultural backgrounds. I have been trying (with the help of other representatives) to change the current dynamic. My most recent effort at this was amending the charter. The new charter amendment was approved by the council to be added to this election ballot for you to vote on! The amendment aims to provide students with an understanding that the council is willing to change and be more inclusive for its diverse student body. This year, I will continue my push for inclusivity at events and make it more convenient for us Queens students to go to the Macaulay building.
Something I continue to feel strongly about is that the student body has been disconnected from the council. This is a major challenge we are facing as a council. We have been discussing ways to increase engagement by having more unique small-scale events, which would allow us (the council) to form more personable relationships with you. I hope to continue working on better integrating you and your thoughts into our council. That said, please know you can always share any of your opinions, questions, or concerns with me, and I will always try my best to address them.
Again, I would love to continue serving as your representative, and please go vote on the Macaulay elections page for ZIV and for the NEW CHARTER AMENDMENT between Tuesday, April 9th – Friday, April 19th.
