Kelly Eckenrode is a PhD candidate in Molecular Biology at Brooklyn College at CUNY. She studies the role of mechanical forces on metabolic states in the human pathogen Neisseria gonorrhoeae. She did her undergraduate work at UMass Boston in Biology. After graduation, she worked with the Department of Systems Biology at Harvard Medical School as a research technician. There she studied how genetic regulatory elements in several Drosophila species (fruit flies) shape their evolution. Outside of research and running amok, Kelly loves to read and illustrate comics.
