We will meet artist, Tom Smith at his exhibition, “Heavenly Bodies,” at Rox Gallery in the Lower East Side.  It is especially important that you are prepared so that you can ask questions during this special opportunity.

October 21:

We’ll visit the National Jazz Museum, 104 E. 126th Street.  The primary exhibition is on the Latin Jazz musician, Bebo Valdes.  Take a look at this website–listen to some of his music, and watch some of these clips from the animated film, “Chico and Rita“(2010), which is a great film!  If you have time, you should watch it!

October 28:  Georges Bizet’s “Carmen” (1875)

Watch this San Diego Opera Talk (30 minutes) with Nick Reveles, then listen to a few songs (30 minutes) from “Carmen” featuring opera greats, Maria Callas and Placido Domingo, among others.

November 4:  Read the press release and artist biography for the Pace gallery’s “Picasso and Jacqueline.”  Also, read this article about Jacqueline Roque, then take a look at some of the images of Picasso’s “women.”

November 11:

We have the pleasure and privilege to meet poet, Laurie Guerrero, in class.  Please read this
