Beginning in 2013, our Science and Technology in New York City seminar has kicked off with the BioBlitz, an exciting, 24-hour event in which students, faculty and researchers come together to discover, study, and catalogue animal and plant species in biologically rich sites such as Central Park and the Botanic Garden. The curriculum for Seminar 3 has also undergone some innovative changes. Called “Science Forward,” this media-rich, interactive approach to learning focuses on the development of scientific critical thinking skills, or “science senses.”

At the end of the semester, all of our Seminar 3 students come together to present their work at the end-of-term conference where they present their scientific posters, some of which are based on the data gathered from BioBlitz. This year, we have begun a new digital archive for the Seminar 3 posters.

• Poster Tutorials and Resources: Contains information on poster design theory and technique, examples from past courses, and an archive of posters from other schools.
• Environmental Science and Technology of NYC, Professor Tammy Lewis: a student-generated eportfolio of group projects (Fall 2010)
• Debating Environmental Issues, Professor Zhongqi Cheng: A multimedia eportfolio, including PSAs, videotaped debates, and a virtual book (Fall 2009).
