The globalization program at the Center for Arts and Culture looks at the impact of globalization and modernization upon culture and how foreign policies can promote understanding. It tracks the development of cultural diplomacy, trade agreements, and other policies.

Cool New York Event Finder
Corresponding with the unveiling of the Gates, the city’s Department for Cultural Affairs launched the Cool New York event finder. The site allows you to search events by category (Botanic Garden, Free, Literary etc.) or by borough. Visitors can also search for events by name or date. The Department’s general site has more information about funding for cultural organizations and its other programs.

Established for artists using electronic technology, this site is easy to use and should pique the curiosity of anyone interested in the arts.

Municipal Art Society
The Municipal Art Society of New York is a private, non-profit membership organization whose mission is to promote a more livable city. Since 1893, the MAS has worked to enrich the culture, neighborhoods and physical design of New York City. It advocates for excellence in urban design and planning, contemporary architecture, historic preservation and public art.

New York City Arts Coalition
The New York City Arts Coalition is a membership network of arts professionals and arts supporters organized for education, advocacy and public policy development in the nonprofit arts field.

New York City Cultural Community Database
A joint project of the Department of Cultural Affairs and the Alliance for the Arts. It aims to provide a comprehensive picture of the city’s arts activities and trends to provide a basis for policy planning.

New York Women in Film and Television
NYWIFT brings together more than 1,500 professionals including EMMY and Academy Award® winners, who work in all areas of the entertainment industry — above and below the line. It is part of a network of 40 international women in film chapters, representing more than 10,000 members worldwide. NYWIFT offers an interesting series of open meetings about film and television.

NY Arts Magazine
NY Arts is a bimonthly magazine that covers fine arts in NYC.

NYC Landmarks Preservation Commission
The NYC agency charged with protecting the City’s architectural, historic and cultural resources. Info on how to designate buildings as historic, public hearing calendars and much much more.

NYC Music Places
This site is a database that allows musicians looking for rehearsal or performance space to find what’s available in their areas. Sites can also be searched by the number of instrumentalists or vocalists and audience members they can accommodate, and by price. (A similar site exists for dancers, and one for actors is under construction.)

NYFA Source
Launched by the New York Foundation for the Arts, the NYFA Source website is the first national database of grants, residencies, publications, and sources of information and assistance for artists of all disciplines.

Piet & Anja Oudolf
The Battery Conservancy has chosen the Dutch artist Piet Oudolf to redesign the gardens in Battery Park, including the Gardens of Remembrance.

Queens Council on the Arts
The Queens Council on the Arts is a non-profit arts organization founded in 1966 to support, promote, and develop the arts and individual artists in presenting their cultural diversity for the benefit of the greater-Queens community.

Theatre Development Fund
Group supports production of new play and musicals, but best known for the TKTS booth in Times Square. Advantage of the site, aside from telling you a lot more about theatre and TDF, is that you can get on their mailing list for discount seating if you are one of the following “students, teachers, union members, retired person, performing arts professionals, the clergy, and members of the armed forces.”

Great site for searching by topic for films and video you may recall only vaguely. 30 year collection.
