Of Food-Related Propaganda

This was the last type of art that I found to be interesting at the MoMA. I did not expect to find propaganda in the kitchen exhibit, but it was there. The meaning seems to be pretty simple so I will not go into much detail. This sort of poster was supposed to encourage people to consume the kinds of food that were not needed or were not useful for the war effort. There was also a set of posters that (ready for the shock?) encouraged people to grow bunnies because they were a good way to get meat. Also there were posters that showed how many rats a single rat can create in half a year. In general it would seem like it was acceptable for the government to (in a “free market” economy) tell people what they should or should not be eating. Would it be acceptable today for the government to tell people to buy less computers so they are cheaper for the military? I think not. If they replaced that fish with something else I would actually find the food appetizing.
