We learned that there can be many different interpretations of one piece of art. We all loved the art work and the fact that we had this whole museum to ourselves. It was different to look at art with friends instead of with strangers. It was a once in a lifetime opportunity!

Lake George

The Night at the Museum event was a rewarding experience for us. One of the paintings we decided to do was Casilear’s “Lake George”. Never did we get the chance to actually observe and think about the paintings at a museum before and this project gave us the opportunity to share our insights. We learned that there is no such thing as an insignificant part of a painting and we ended up describing even the smallest details and their relation to the whole landscape.

A Storm in the Rocky Mountains and a Statue of a Family Group

This was a great educational experience to learn about how art and technology can be fused. We learned how to work together in a group, and by discussing our individual opinions, we were able to form a collective view on each piece of art. We learned to appreciate art from not only the perspective of our peers but also from the artist’s perspective.

A Ride For Freedom: An Analysis

It was a great experience for the whole group. Not only were we able to learn a lot about the paintings and each other, but we also gained a different perspective on the museum experience. Teaming up in small groups and actually talking about specific paintings in detail allowed us all to look more closely at the art and appreciate the museum much more.

Portrait of Madame Tallien by Jean Bernard Duvivier

This visit to the museum helped us to look deeper into art than we normally would. We passed by many pieces of art that we wouldn’t have questioned otherwise, but now we deeply analyzed them and learned to enjoy the paintings and sculptures even more.

Fallen Bierstadt

This was a very big bonding experience. It helped us voice our opinions and build ideas based off one another’s. We were able to really get to know each other on a more personal and intellectual level. We shared laughs and interesting ideas.

East River Park 1902

At first, we didn’t really know what to expect from the Night at the Museum. However, with every work of art that we encountered, we became much more familiar with analyzing and comfortably talking about everything that we see. We realized that when looking at a painting or sculpture, there is so much more than just what meets the eye. The real challenge is to truly understand what the hidden meaning is, and what story it is really trying to tell. Figuring out this “story” was definitely a challenge, but it was one that we as a group overcame and enjoyed doing.

Not At Home

Our group discussed the paining “Not at Home” by Eastman Johnson. We speculated about the mood of the painting, the contrast of colors, and the implications of these factors regarding the woman’s state of mind. We gained a new confidence in our ability to effectively analyze and discuss art. We surprised ourselves!

The Old Trombola
