Presentation Methods

Macaulay Conference Sunday, May 6th

Moving away from PowerPoint:  we all make fun of it, but we all use it! Presenting visually using multimedia resources provides a framework for engaging, concise presentations.  Below are some tips for developing a concise, image driven presentation:

  • Background research, synthesize the papers / course materials
  • Discuss ideas with group.  What is your message?
  • Getting the message across:
    • Define concepts and key people/events broadly
    • How can you visualize them, and how they are connected
    • Build the story. Use a storyboard for structure, flow
    • Reassess what you still need so that your message is coherent
    • Eliminate what you don’t need
    • Practice!!!
