Elmhurst NY 11373

Terraza 7 is a Columbian bar right off of Roosevelt Avenue that hosts live music events, ceremonies and film screenings.

Customers come not only from Jackson Heights and Corona but also from Manhattan to attend the musical gatherings. Many customers come from but are not limited to Latin America.

The bar and its colorful decorations were handmade by the owner.

In regards to Roosevelt Avenue, the representative we talked to did not see any change implemented on the main street. Terraza 7 is also considering hiring security for larger events.

Terraza 7 works with Queen Museum as well as being in direct collaboration with the city council.

Do they know about the BID?

Terraza 7 is aware of the BID and thinks it is necessary for the neighborhood.

Queens Midnight Pharmacy is a pharmacy with a little market/shop below on Roosevelt Avenue. This little market/shop runs its business selling perfumes, gifts, accessories, etc while the pharmacy itself ran on selling medicine, etc.

  • Customers: Local Residents around Corona, some customers come from other boroughs (Manhattan, Brooklyn) for perfumes

Throughout the 4 years working on the cashier job, a worker stated Roosevelt Avenue is not very  safe, although criminal activity has declined over the past years. Efforts have been made to take those “people” off the streets. What people? It may the drunk people walking along Roosevelt Avenue or the people integrated in “regular foot traffic” handing out cards of half-naked women, saying “chica-chica” (NY Times) . Especially with this Pharmacy being open late as well as the little market, it is important to ensure the safety of the workers.

  • Improvements that can be made
    1. Have more police around Roosevelt Avenue
    2. Make the street cleaner, with more garbage containers
    3. Take the “people” off the streets

The city could help in making these improvements happen, but they mostly lie in the hands of the people living around Roosevelt Avenue to keep it clean and to keep it safe.

Are You Aware of the BID?

The workers were not aware of the Business Improvement District. However, as the worker was educated about the BID, they believed that the BID would significantly help, in which it would become more cleaner and probably more safer. The BID could improve business by increasing the number of customers due to the expected changes to be made, safety and environmentally wise.

Cafe Con Leche is a bakery/mini restaurant located on Roosevelt Avenue. This business runs on its traditional dishes as well as selling coffee and buns.

  • Customers: Local Residents around Corona, Mostly Latin American/Hispanic people
    • A place where many elderly people meet and hang out.

Currently, the conditions of Roosevelt Avenue have been better than before. In previous years, (2009-2011), the restaurant faced numerous sanitation violations (Clean Chow). However, Cafe Con Leche has recently received an “A” for sanitary. As a result, it has been consistent with its quality of food and service.

Are You Aware of the BID?

Unfortunately, the worker was not aware of the Business Improvement District. However, as the worker was educated about the BID, he believed that the BID wouldn’t help this business, financially, but would improve the overall condition of Roosevelt Avenue, and possibly the outcome of customers.
