Dance

As early as 7 A.M. Chinese women come to use the park for exercise. These exercises involve a meditative style dance, in which they play music and move in a synchronized fashion. The music is typically a mix of modern Chinese songs that carry a strong beat.

It is important to note that most of the participants in this dance exercise are of retirement age. In addition, it is clear that this group is led and organized by one of the women.

A popular street photographer blog, Humans of New York (HONY), featured this photograph of one of the dancers at Seward Park. According to the blog, she is part of a volunteer dance troupe that performs for hospital patients.
The existence of an organized group shows the closeness and relationships the immigrant Chinese women have developed with each other and are continuing to develop over their shared passion for Chinese music/dance.
