Hello, fellow students!

I am Margaret Wang, and I really don’t know where to start. There’s not much interesting about me; I never did any sports in school or really joined any clubs. I have played the piano for 11 years (quit due to time issues), did rhythmic gymnastics for a year, practiced Kung Fu for two years (and honestly got nothing out of it), and volunteered a bit.

  • I’m a huge fan of Pretty Little Liars, and I don’t like to analyze the show that much (creating theories about -A and whatnot); I just like to watch it as I go.
  • I really like trance and techno, but I also like calmer songs (or instrumentals, in this case).
  • A huge dream of mine would be to study abroad in Japan; the language, culture, scenery, and (especially) food fascinate me.

I’m 17, clumsy, and that’s pretty much it.

ah-chiu, like when you sneeze (:

Hello,

My name is Samantha Chiu and my intended major is accounting.

  • I am an Aries. I am 51.22% ISTP and 48.78% ISTJ.
  • I am a Japanophile. A lot of my interests revolve around that fact.
  • I like simplicity. And vegetables.
  • I am very family-centric. I’ve been an aunt for almost eleven months.

His name is Ozzie (: Aren't his cheeks adorable?

  • This is the song that I’ve had on replay recently. It’s in Japanese though.

Sorry for a short introduction, but I’m not good at describing myself. Thank you ( ´ ▽ ` )ノ

Cate (With a C) Larsen

Hi! My name is Caitlin- it’s easy to say but understandably difficult to spell, which is fine, because everyone just calls me Cate. I’m aspiring to become a journalist. I’ve always had a passion for writing, my computer a storehouse for dozens of stories that date back to my elementary school days- some long, some short, and all embarrassing. However, I’d much rather go into broadcast journalism than write for a newspaper. I’ve had enough internships and watched enough episodes of The Office (My favorite show until Steve Carell left it, and yes the link is necessary because the theme song makes me so excited) to know that I would never want to work in an office all day. I love the idea of running out on the field to be where the biggest things are happening, communicating with people to figure those things out, and calling it an average day. So my next internship will hopefully be, not for an office, but NY1 this spring! If you see me around and I’m on my phone, I’m probably not texting, but flipping between my too many news apps.

KNTV_NEWS_DESK

Besides that, I’m big on music. I’ve never seen it as a future career because anytime that I’ve tried to be serious about it it’s become more of a chore than something I love. I’ve been playing the piano since I was six, and guitar since I was thirteen. This summer I started to combine my writing with my music to get the perfect activity – writing songs.

Picking a favorite genre of music is way too hard, but I’ve been really into jazz lately. I actually saw one of my favorite trumpet players Chris Botti this summer, and he invited me to come on stage and play the drums with him, which as you now know is not an instrument I play. (I really hope that link works but if not it happened, I promise.) A sort of terrifying, but really cool way to play the drums for the first time, even though it felt more like a workout than playing an instrument.

I’m also really involved in my church, Brooklyn Tabernacle (you might have heard of their choir) which I started going to last summer. I work with kids there (another big passion of mine) and for security (but only at the front desk, those of you who have met me know how far from intimidating I look). Though I guess I would call myself a Christian, I don’t like the idea of having any sort of strict denomination of Christianity and calling it the “right one.” That puts God in a box, and I think He’s much bigger than that. blurry-sky-cross

I’m really into eating healthy (though I’m not against the occasional… ok, frequent, cheat day). Even though I’m not on any sort of official sports team I love running, spinning, and basketball. I’m planning on running in this in September if I have the time!

So there I sort of am in 500 words! At least I got to use more characters than a tweet.

Bonjour Mes Amis

In case any of you were wondering, the above language is French. My name is Josh Solomowitz and I can now say I live in the greatest city on the planet.

new yorkThere’s a lot I can say about myself here, but I will keep it somewhat brief. I’m 18 years old and live on Long Island and am also an identical twin.

I can honestly say I’m proud of what I’ve done. First off, congrats everyone on getting into Macaulay Honors College. That is a feat by itself. My greatest accomplishments include conducting science research at a world-renowned research facility, being a Bar-Mitzvah, and being selected by my high school to meet Michelle Obama.

I plan to major in international business while minoring in environmental science, economics, and French. Traveling is my favorite thing to do (a big reason I’m going into INTERNATIONAL business). I’ve been all over western Europe, Mexico, and Canada. Learning about different cultures is something I really enjoy.

My hobbies include hanging out with friends, reading, playing trumpet, meeting new people, and learning new things.

Thank you to the people who took the time to read this! I look forward to a great year and all the fun that will come.

Me, Myself, and I

***Note: If you read the title above and found yourself interested in the contents of this post, do not be fooled. Even I, as the author, suggest you navigate away from this post. BEWARE… it was written to bore you to tears.

You know, the first thing that comes to mind when I’m introducing myself is the fact that no one has ever said my official name correctly. I understand if it’s a person from a different language background – I don’t expect a Frenchman to know how to pronounce my name with Chinese accents. I mean, please, let’s be realistic here

Still, one silly dream that I had when I was younger was (you guessed it) that one day, a teacher would take one look at the roster and call out, “SiJia You.” This wouldn’t be just any call – it’d be one with the correct pronunciations.

I’ve come to the conclusion that my imagination must’ve ran wild back then – no one’s going to say it right on the first try. Maybe it’s just the growing pessimism that comes with teenage angst. But after listening to teachers calling out all sorts of variations of my name (ranging from ‘see-jee-a’ to ‘sit-jwa’ to ‘sjaw’), I’ve given up hope. I used to believe that the teachers who spoke the same language as I would pronounce my name better than those who spoke a different native language. Yet, statistics from the past 13 years show that that is not the case – my 8th grade Spanish teacher (a native Spanish speaker) pronounced my name better than any of the Mandarin-speaking teachers I’ve ever had.

Now I know what you must be thinking – this girl has some serious name-trauma. No, no I don’t. And I’m not in denial either. But speaking of traumas… no… never mind. A curious thing I found out was that I have Hippopotomonstrosesquipedaliophobia after taking an online quiz. I didn’t think I had that phobia until I saw what the phobia was called. Who would get Hippopotomonstrosesquipedaliophobia from attempting to read the word Hippopotomonstrosesquipedaliophobia? Though if you really want to get technical, Hippopotomonstrosesquipedaliophobia doesn’t even come close to the word I learned in Organic Chemistry last year!

Speaking of Chemistry, I must say that I absolutely love that subject. Not like – love. I may have something to do with making ice-cream and lollipops during the labs or exploding things in cups or, simply, seeing the physical changes that chemical reactions bring about. My favorite aspect of Chemistry labs is flame color. When you expose fire to different chemicals, the normal blue flame that results with the use of a Bunsen burner can change to all shades of green, red, yellow, purple, etc. My favorite would have to be the emerald green that results when you add Barium (Ba) to the flame. However, the scarlet red that comes from adding Strontium (Sr).

While we’re on the topic of things I love, I might as well list some for you since this post is about moi:

  • making 3D images/designs with PhotoShop
  • creating videos with Sony Vegas Pro
  • drawing animations (see below)

Rin&Len Monsters Baby L Collage

Unfortunately, all the real-life drawings I’ve completed were so horrible that I immediately burned them and tossed the ashes out the window and into the wind. YOU DO NOT WANT TO SEE MY ATTEMPTS AT ANYTHING OTHER THAN ANIMATIONS… ANYTHING.

I truly enjoy listening to music but uploading my entire playlist will be quite a feat that I’m not mentally or physically willing to do. Therefore, some songs I have playing on my stereo now are (click anything in parentheses, even the smiley face):

Browse the links at your own leisure and desire.

Food-wise? NO ONIONS. ABSOLUTELY NO ONIONS. Coffee… meh… they are not my first or second or even third choice of beverages. I prefer soft drinks, mainly Coke Zero. Otherwise, apple juice, orange juice, but no coconuts please. And anything sweet or sour or salty goes. Jelly is good too – they’re chewy. Not Jell-O… JELLY. Like Konyaku Jelly. They’re very easy to make and adding fruits in them (if paired correctly) can make the perfect get-together snack. I feel as if I’m advertising for the company… but really! They’re delicious, especially when eaten after being chilled in the refrigerator overnight.

You can say I’m obese at heart and would love to try any types of food as long as they don’t include onions or coconuts. I’ll probably be reading your introductions in search of any food recommendations, aside from getting to know you (which is, also, quite important). So for those of you who’ve made it to the end, thank you for reading and I can’t wait to read through all of you introductions.

This is me, myself, and I.

P.S. Penguins are adorable!

An Introduction

Hello! My name is Joeleen Moy. I am a commuter living in the LES, hoping to major in Journalism.  I grew up on Long Island in Suffolk County but I have always considered the city as my second home.  Every week my parents would drive my sister and I out to go to church and visit our gram.  Occasionally we spent weekends touring museums or exploring the city.  Through these trips and the friends I made in the city, I’ve grown to love the diverse and unique spirit of the city and I’m excited to study here.

Here’s a cover of a Radiohead song by Regina Spektor that I love:

I would best describe myself as a dabbler/’jack of all trades.’ In high school I played volleyball, and was a captain on the fencing team.  I played the clarinet and oboe in band, play the guitar and piano for fun.  I enjoy art of almost all kinds and though I do ‘dabble’ in creating art (photography, sketches, etc,) I don’t really pursue it seriously.  You can check out some of my photos on my flickr. (Disclaimer: I haven’t uploaded pictures in a very long time, but theres a lot of old stuff there.) Likewise my taste in music is eclectic, ranging from Kendrick to Coldplay to Beirut to JT to Weezer- across almost all genre borders.  I’m usually not picky unless it has to do with clothing, I’m always up to try new things, and I’m glad that New York and Baruch have the resources for me to enjoy these next four years.

Introduction

Hey everybody my name is Nicholas Arniotes.  I have a lot of interests such as football, video games, and movies.  One I think is one of my greatest passions is music.

Here is a video of a classical piece I really like:

I hope you guys like it despite Barry Tuckwell looking kind of goofy as he plays his French horn.

Introducing Me

Before I begin, here is one of my favorite songs.

My name is Alexandra Szilagyi, and as you have probably guessed from my last name, I am not in any shape or form American. In fact, I am a first generation immigrant from Hungary, a tiny country (compared to the USA) found in central Europe. Throughout my life, I have traveled to countless places, and I got to live in several of these amazing places. These include Hungary obviously, where I lived until I was around eight years old, South Africa, where I lived for three years, the United Arab Emirates, or more specifically Dubai, where I unfortunately got to spend only one year, and of course the United States where I have lived for about seven years now.

budapest

With each of these places comes an array of cultures and languages that to this day fascinate me. I personally love exploring the different aspects of different religions, cultures, and languages. As a result, I have been to several religious institutions as a child: churches (which is the main institution of my religion, as I am a protestant), synagogues (which I got to explore upon my arrival to the United States as I moved to a town where Judaism was the primary religion and as a result I attended countless Bar and Bat mitzvahs), A Hindu temple (Which I got to explore when I was merely a child, as one of my best friends in South Africa was Indian), and last but not least, my religious endeavors lead me to enter a mosque as well (since one of my best friends since childhood is Muslim, and since living in Dubai generated a lot of interaction with Muslims from all over the world).

I also thoroughly enjoy learning languages. I currently speak four- English, French, Spanish, and Hungarian- however I hope to expand my horizons and learn a couple more. I would love to be able to speak Arabic, as my love for the language has only grown throughout the years. Not only do I find the alphabet beautiful, the way of speaking is melodic as well. It’s as if the language were a form of art in itself.  I got to experience the learning process of the Arabic language during my time in Dubai, however it was not nearly enough for me to learn the language- the alphabet was as far as I got. I would also learn Japanese if I had the capacity for it,  and I often wonder whether I should just start a course in the Japanese language.  I would also love to learn Italian and Portugese- two languages that I find similar to French and Spanish, and as a result, I find that they are already often times understood by my ears as they strain to hear more conversations in foreign languages.

Throughout my travels, I also got to know so many amazing people from all over the world. As of right now, I could literally travel anywhere in the world, and I’d most probably have a friend living there. Well, I guess that’s stretching the truth just a little, but it never hurts to dream, right? I know for a fact that I have friends located in Holland, Belgium, Hungary, Germany, Austria, Greece, Turkey, Syria, Australia, Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, Canada, South Africa, Japan, England, France, Spain, Italy, China, the Philippines, Thailand, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Poland, and several other countries just to name a few.

But enough about my travels. I also have several hobbies that I spend my time with.  I love to read as I guess most of us in this program do. Books are my everything. I remember first learning English, and reading Winnie the Pooh in two different languages simultaneously just trying to figure out what the page said. I also love sports: Name any sport and I’ll probably either love it, or have played it at least. My absolute favorites include Soccer (or football for all of you Europeans out there), volleyball, Badmington, and Netball. Unfortunately for me, very few people in America have heard of netball. As a result, I find myself trying to explain the beauty of the sport, without coming off as a little overly passionate. But I have come up with a short summary of the sport: it is much like basketball and ultimate frisbee combined, for girls. Only you can’t dribble or even move with the ball, and the team consists of seven players instead of five. And one other main difference is that the hoops don’t have backboards making it a lot harder to get the ball in.

I don’t really know how long I should make this, because I could honestly continue for a couple more pages, considering I have so many things that I’m passionate about. I guess I can just mention them without going into major details, and if you’d like to learn more, you are welcome to ask me about it- or if any of you share the same passions, maybe we can talk, or even form a club.

I am a Hungarian Scout- yes, it does exist, I am a Hungarian Pre-school teacher, I love to draw, people watch, listen when everyone thinks that there is nothing to hear. I love animals, particularly the clouded leopard and the Maltese tiger, two creatures that I find immensely beautiful. Interestingly enough, though my favorite animals are big cats so to speak, I do not get along well with domesticated cats. I guess you could say that I’m more of a dog person. Sorry.

I love to write, though I’ve only recently began to write, and I like to cook, because it amazes me how one can create something from raw materials. My favorite colors are turquoise and red, and I have one little sister who is twelve years my younger.

I guess that is a good introduction of me for now. I tend to be a shy person, so I often find it hard to start talking to people I barely know, and therefore I encourage you to come talk to me too. I do try my best to be outgoing, but it isn’t always easy. I love meeting new people, regardless of my introverted nature, so I look forward to reading everyone’s introductions.

And that, ladies and gentleman, is a short (or perhaps not so short depending on your point of view) introduction of me: Alex(andra) Szilagyi.

ALOHA!

Who am I? I would like to say I am this accomplished human being who has dipped her feet in all aspects of life Who has travelled the globe and speaks ten languages, but fortunately I am not. My name is Jessamyn Mia Sutton and I am a 17 year old girl who has yet to live life to the fullest. I grew up in Brooklyn, New York in a large Jewish community. Gene Kelley and Barbra Streisand were constantly dancing and singing with me in my house growing up via the tv. They inspired me to sing, dance and act in all opportunities given by school performances. I play piano and would love to learn the Guitar but until now cannot grasp the idea of it. I am interested in learning more about field in the business world but specifically management and the music business. I am now waiting for the day to be able to say I am an accomplished human being who has dipped my foot in all aspects of life. I have travelled the globe and speak 3 languages fluently.
