New York City is covered with the creations of artists all throughout the five boroughs. Diverse in size and scope, the graffiti and street art that cover the walls of tall buildings, warehouses and public spaces are found in many different neighborhoods- a quick tour of the different areas in the city reveal that some places in New York are more lavishly decorated in graffiti than others.

The varied numbers of street art imply that street artists prefer some neighborhoods to others. After all, the busy streets of Midtown may not be as inconspicuous a place to vandalize property with art as a quiet street in Brooklyn. In a city whose diversity is unlike any other, I am interested in the diversity of street art not merely in content but also in where it is found. Do street artists choose specific neighborhoods to put up their art? And if so why do they choose the places they do?
