In the City of New York, there is a wide variety of not only people, but pets as well. Dogs are the most popular of these pets, totaling to a little more than 600,000. With such a large population, it’s important that we get to know more about the canines we share this city with. My research is going to focus on whether or not there is any correlation between dog breeds and areas of high crime rates. Specifically, I am looking into whether areas of high crime activity here in the city tend to have dogs of larger breeds. This is one of the biggest distinctions between the dogs in this city, seeing as how certain areas have bigger dogs than others. Any possible correlation between these two variables can also help with future research on whether or not areas of higher crime rates have bigger dogs for reasons such as dog fighting or perhaps due to a better sense of security with bigger dogs for protection in areas of higher crime rates. Research into this area could help in alleviating the rates of that crime and similar ones.
