Our New York City Tourist Guide

Greetings from Sheepshead Bay!

December8

Hop on the   Q or B!

Nostrand Avenue and Avenue Z before sunrise

December7

Nostrand Avenue is part of Sheepshead Bay between Emmons Avenue and Avenue U. It’s a major strip where you can find anything from supermarkets to Chopstix, the best Chinese food in Brooklyn, to Radio Shack, or the local deli. This is usually a busy intersection because there is a B36 and B44 bus stop on the corner. If you ever get lost in Sheepshead Bay, hop on the B36 and get off at the train station to catch the Q or B.

Hungry? No Problem!

Roll n Roaster is a Sheephead Bay local favorite. This joint is always packed at nighttime with people of all ages dining in. My personal suggestion would be a classic Roast Beef sandwich with an order of cheese fries. You can’t go wrong with that order and you’ll fit right in. Don’t worry about the long line. It moves fast!

Name says it all

After a nice stroll down Emmons Avenue, be sure to stop by and check out Dessert Palace. They have a wide assortment of Gelato flavors. My personal favorite is Mango. This is a must try for first timers. Dessert Palace gets pretty crowded at night, especially during summertime, but they have great outdoor seating for their customers. Grab a table with your friends and prepare for a night filled with drinks, dessert, and conversation. There is a bar serving drinks all night, along with different kinds of coffee, tea, and other beverages. Don’t be surprised to be surrounded by a Russian crowd, because this is a well known Russian hot spot.

Sheepshead Bay Do’s & Dont’s!

December2

DO’s:

After recently closing due to a fire from a restaurant above, Loehmanns finally reopens! If you’re on Emmons Avenue and want to get some shopping done or need somewhere to go to kill time, I suggest you visit Loehmanns. This is a very popular local clothing store, because of its wide array of designer clothes at discounted prices. You might not need that Versace coat or the Gucci belt at 30% off, but you will definitely find something in that store that suits your taste, style, and budget.

DONT’S:

Readers beware! Other might praise this place, but it is like an old broken down bike we hold onto even though it doesn’t work. El Greco is without a doubt a Sheepshead Bay landmark. I’ve heard from long time residents that this diner used to live up to its expectations many years ago. However, nowadays, this could quite possibly be the worst place you can grab a bite to eat. The food is on par with something microwaveable you can get in Pathmark on Nostrand and Y. The only quirk about this diner is that it will most likely be open whenever you need it to be, so you can always rely on El Greco for a cup of coffee when you’re coming home in the early morning from a rough night. Even then, I’d get a coffee from the grocery store across the street.
