MACAULAY TO WELCOME THE CLASS OF 2025 WITH IN PERSON ORIENTATION

Fully vaccinated first year students will come together.

On August 15 and 16, the Student Development Department at Macaulay Honors College will host the incoming Class of 2025 at the college’s first in person student event since the pandemic struck in 2019. Fully vaccinated first year students will come back to school to meet one another, begin building their student community, and get to know key staff members.

John Jay College has lent its spacious, outdoor Jay Walk for the event, welcoming the 520 students comprising the new Macaulay cohort in four smaller groups. The setting will allow for social distancing. In addition, John Jay’s Public Safety team has developed new, simplified safety protocols for attendees—students and staff—who are required to be fully vaccinated.

“Macaulay orientation activities are designed to establish a supportive community of students,” explains Chris Daversa, Macaulay’s Director of Student Development. “We’re so excited to bring the 8 campuses together for this event, and being safely together will help provide the foundation that Macaulay students need.”

The in person event augments a series of virtual experiences that help students transition to life as a Macaulay student. Students will meet their peers in co-curricular mentoring meetings, and meet instructors and advisors.

“Orientation is the first experience the incoming class will have as official college students, so it’s going to be memorable,” said Joie Ning, ’24. “It’s something I definitely wish I had last year. Nothing can recreate the feeling of excitement that comes with meeting other students and kicking off your college career with them!”
