The Macaulay Honors College Foundation Board is pleased to announce the appointment of Thalia Smith, an Audit & Assurance partner at Deloitte. She joins the board at a momentous time in the college’s history, as it celebrates its 20th anniversary.

“Thalia is a dynamic presence who is eager to work with our students,” says Interim Dean Dr. Vanessa K. Valdés. “And her personal background, as one of the first in her family to graduate from college, parallels what many of our students have experienced.”

Thalia’s career at Deloitte began when she joined the firm as an intern after her sophomore year in college. Now a 20-year veteran, she believes passionately in mentoring and first-hand experience for students. She is the partner sponsor for MADE (Making Accounting Diverse and Equitable) which is Deloitte’s $75M commitment to help transform the future of the accounting profession through deliberate actions to increase the number of racially and ethnically diverse professionals. She is also a lead recruiting partner for the audit practice of Deloitte’s greater tri-state offices as well as the Black and Allies Audit & Assurance Community Leader.

“I am committed to opening doors for future student generations,” Thalia explains. “And I look forward to working as a Macaulay board member to create the types of opportunities and leadership pathways that shaped my own career.”

In addition to her commitment to Macaulay’s mission, Thalia’s impressive professional acumen will be an important asset as the college enters its next twenty years.

“As the college continues to grow and offer new opportunities to our students, her engagement and perspective will be most welcome,” says Board Chair Anthony E. Meyer.
