For the fifth consecutive year, Macaulay Honors College has earned 5 mortarboards, the highest rating among public university honors colleges and programs. The scores are based on data compiled by Public University Honors, an organization that evaluates schools using criteria including the number of honors classes offered, overall class size, ratio of staff to students, priority registration and prestigious awards received.

In the 2020-2021 rankings, Macaulay is one of just seven schools to achieve a 5 out of 5 designation, with only one other program in the Northeast to have received this top rating. Ratings are detailed in a print guide, Inside Honors: Ratings and Reviews of Sixty Public University Honors Programs.

“All of us at Macaulay are proud to be recognized once again for the accessible and transformative experience we are able to offer our talented and achievement-oriented students,” said Mary Pearl, Ph.D, Dean of Macaulay. “Faculty, students, staff and administrators all work together to foster personal growth through academic challenge, effective career-planning support, resilience-building and in-depth learning experiences. Our focus on continuous pursuit of excellence for our students attracts applicants to Macaulay.”

“Our most important strengths as a college come from the excitement, engagement and achievement of our students,” offers Joseph Ugoretz, Ph.D., Macaulay’s Chief Academic Officer. “We’re proud to have this acknowledgment of the exceptional educational opportunities we make available to them.”

Macaulay students have received offers and fellowships to top graduate and professional schools, including Yale, Harvard, Princeton, Columbia, Duke, Stanford, the University of California/Berkeley, CUNY and Oxford. They also have received awards and fellowships such as the Rhodes, Truman, Goldwater, Fulbright, Salk, Coro, Beinecke, National Science Foundation, and NYC Urban Fellowships.

“As an outstanding public honors college, we know that the most talented students are the most eager to rise to challenges,” adds Dr. Ugoretz. “Macaulay students impress us every day with what they can dream and accomplish.”
