Hello, and welcome to our corner of the website. When studying the history of the Sandy Ground community and the history of Liberian immigrants in America, it is also important to study the common ground - literally - between the two. As the self-appointed Macaulay Honors College Staten Island historians, we have done just that.

Staten Island is a borough of New York City - the least populated and most suburban of the five. We took its common (and undeserved) nickname, "The Forgotten Borough," to give us a chance to illuminate some of Staten Island's rich history. Here you will find information about the island in its early days, its current state, and everything in between.

We hope to broaden your base of Staten Island knowledge and give you a plethora of good reasons to enjoy and appreciate our borough.

One thing not forgotten about Staten Island is all of its open spaces. As compared with its other New York City counterparts, Staten Island is abundant in parks, beaches, woods, and other natural landscapes - and it is something we Staten Islanders are proud of! Before continuing to the other pages, take a minute to enjoy the beauty of our home in the slideshow below, which showcases some common sights in our borough of parks.
