I have listened to opera music before and have always heard about opera but never experienced it for myself. When I think of opera I think of big people singing extremely loud. I picture those people that can hold a glass and make it break with their voices. All of this is silly and very stereotypical when it comes to opera. The House of the Dead was not what I expected to see. I am glad that it was not what I expected. I think this added to my experience.

http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/bergman09/content/house-dead-opera-2#comments nyc nyc arts people and places Sun, 06 Dec 2009 16:06:27 +0000 Michelle Ranello 444 at http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/bergman09 New York Historical Society http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/bergman09/content/new-york-historical-society

http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/bergman09/content/new-york-historical-society#comments nyc people and places who we are Tue, 24 Nov 2009 20:46:37 +0000 Michelle Ranello 401 at http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/bergman09 MOMA http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/bergman09/content/moma-2

http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/bergman09/content/moma-2#comments nyc arts painting who we are Tue, 24 Nov 2009 20:32:23 +0000 Michelle Ranello 400 at http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/bergman09 Museum of Modern Art http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/bergman09/content/museum-modern-art
On Friday I went to the Museum of Modern Art for the first time ever. I must say that I will be visiting the MOMA over and over again. I thought it was an amazing museum. I really didn't know what to expect when I walked in. I didn't realize the amound of artwork that was in the museum. Last year in highschool I took a humanities course and it extensively covered all of this artwork. When I went to the fifth floor of the museum I felt like I was inside my textbook from last year. It was actually even better then the book.

http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/bergman09/content/museum-modern-art#comments nyc people and places public art who we are Sun, 15 Nov 2009 16:42:46 +0000 Michelle Ranello 347 at http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/bergman09 Quartett http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/bergman09/content/quartett
On Tuesday night, when we saw Quartett, I though it was a very unusual and entertaining production. When it began and the lights when out and we heard a loud noise it made me jump. I was like I wonder what we're in for. I thought Quartett was an exciting adventure. i have never seen anything like it before and I think that's why it appealed to me. I didn't realize it would be in french. I think having it in another language made it more appealing. It sounded so beautiful when the Marquise de Merteuil spoke her voice was amazing.

http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/bergman09/content/quartett#comments nyc arts who we are Sun, 15 Nov 2009 16:30:01 +0000 Michelle Ranello 346 at http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/bergman09 Class Discussion http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/bergman09/content/class-discussion
Yesterdays class discussion got me thinking about many things. When we were discussing whether or not the director of a production is enslaved by the author I immedietly thought no. The author of a production is the author, they have their own interpretations of what they've written. The director is simply basing his production on what the author has written. He may use the authors opinion and may not. Ultimately I think the director can do what he wants with a work. Many times directors create works on their interpretations of wha the author has written.

http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/bergman09/content/class-discussion#comments baruch who we are Tue, 03 Nov 2009 15:52:20 +0000 Michelle Ranello 302 at http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/bergman09 Carnegie Hall Concert http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/bergman09/content/carnegie-hall-concert
The concert at Carnegie Hall we went to last Monday was my first concert of that kind. I've been to concerts before but obviously the experinece you get from a concert at Carnegie Hall is way different then the one you get at a Metallica concert. I really enjoyed the concert at Carnegie Hall. I really was unsure whether or not it would interest me. When I walked into the room where the concert was being held, I was suprised that it was so small. I actually really liked the fact that it was a small auditorium. That room was beautiful.

http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/bergman09/content/carnegie-hall-concert#comments concert nyc nyc arts who we are Tue, 03 Nov 2009 15:32:03 +0000 Michelle Ranello 301 at http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/bergman09 Where the Wild Things Are Warning!! http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/bergman09/content/where-wild-things-are-warning
I am writing this blog to respond to Sara's blog about Where the Wild Things Are. I saw the moive when it first came out. From watching the previews I thought I would be seeing a happy childrens movie. I read the book as a child and loved the story. The book has only 32 words in it. I thought the whole movie would be a happy story about the little boy finding the wild things and having fun with them but ulitimately learning that home is the place to be. Because the book was so short, a new story had to be filled in. I found the movie very depressing and sad.

http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/bergman09/content/where-wild-things-are-warning#comments people and places Sat, 24 Oct 2009 03:03:54 +0000 Michelle Ranello 247 at http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/bergman09 Fair at Madison Square Park!!!! http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/bergman09/content/fair-madison-square-park
This past Thursday I had three hours to kill before class. It was such a beautiful day that I decided to go to Madison Square Park and get some work done. As I walked over to the park from my bus stop I saw all of these little tiny booths set up along the street. As I got closer I saw that a little marketplace was set up around the park. Different people set up booths and were selling all of this really cool merchandise. A lot of the stuff for sale were things these people created. I walked around and saw a bunch of cool things. One woman had handbags made from candy wrappers.

http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/bergman09/content/fair-madison-square-park#comments baruch nyc people and places Fri, 23 Oct 2009 18:58:37 +0000 Michelle Ranello 245 at http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/bergman09 Joseph O' Connor Reading http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/bergman09/content/joseph-o-connor-reading
The reading we went to yesterday was both exctiting and intriguing. I have never been to a reading before and I was happy that it was an enjoyable experience . Writing is something I love to do. It really interested me to listen to Joseph O'Connor and to learn how a writer begins writing. I always have trouble getting the ideas that I have down on paper. When I travel to and from school I get inspired by what I see. Stories and characters pop into my mind but when I begin to write down what I think of, it never comes out the same.

http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/bergman09/content/joseph-o-connor-reading#comments baruch Wed, 21 Oct 2009 23:33:32 +0000 Michelle Ranello 234 at http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/bergman09
