Exactly one week ago, I had to wake up in the wee hours in the morning to attend Macaulay's Snapshot Event and the honors College. As soon as i arrived, there was a general feeling of being lost and purposelessness at the college. Many people had not arrived, and the general sense of the event was a "do it and go" kinda of thing. Therefore, I grouped up with my friends that I knew, made a small group and started filming random photographs that we liked.

The House really was Dead.

I had very high expectations for House of the Dead at the Metropolitan Opera this Wednesday. However, the opera didn't exactly meet my expectations. Although I fully understood that the style of the book is dreary and uneventful in itself, I thought the opera would be somewhat more lively. I expected the acting and singing to bring excitement to the story of the House of the Dead. Apparently, these were not the intentions of the opera itself. All throughout, mostly everything about the opera was very bleak and monotonous.

Ind Event #4: American Folk Art Museum

Recently, me and a few of my idc colleagues went on a visit to see the Tim Burton exhibit at the MoMA during our extensive Tuesday break. After journeying to the MoMA, we arrive to see a nice sign outside the museum saying that it was closed. We were very disappointed, but we were there to go to a museum and we were going to get it. We ended up at the American Folk Art museum, not very far away and luckily got inside for free although they were giving us a hard time with our cultural passports.

Independent event #3: New York Historical Society

Last week, I ventured to the New York Historical Society Museum where they were having a special exhibit on Abraham Lincoln in New York. I was surprised to see so many artifacts in display from Lincoln's time that still looked intact. It was great to see how one of the greatest presidents in American history had so much influence and events that occurred right here in our city. The place where Lincoln said his Cooper Union speech still exists, and I've actually passed by it on my way to St. Mark's place.

Independent Event #2: Wintuk

Yesterday, I went to see Cirque Du Soleil's Wintuk at Madison Square Garden. I had very high expectations for this show, this being my fifth time seeing Cirque and having been so impressed by the quality of all their other shows. Furthermore, my and my mom had been wanting to see this show since last year, and the anticipation made me want to see it even more. In addition, the advertising for Wintuk was heavy.

Flatness in Demoiselles d'avignon

After having seen Demoiselle d'avignon a first time and not having really gotten a lot out of it, it was helpful to go see it a second time after our class discussion, where everything finally was clear to me. I must say that it is a perplexing concept to grasp, the idea that a painting is made to point out that depth cannot be shown on a canvas. However, at the same time, the painting also seems to hint of depth itself, otherwise how could a woman's hand be behind her back or how could she be facing sidewards without there being another side of her beyond that?

A Quartett at Baruch

I was surprised to find that in Baruch there existed an elevator that only went downwards into the basement which contains nothing more than our own performance space! It really is a breath of fresh air to see some kind of artistic endeavor being pursued at a predominantly business orientated school. The space is gorgeous too. I was impressed by the white washed wall that had quotes about music all alongside it.

When I left the Harvey theater after seeing Quartett, my emotions were of a mixed miriad. I didn't really know what to think and how to possibly start dissecting the many frustrating aspects of Quartett. This was the general response form my peers as well, in face, no one knew how to interpret or understand what they had just seen. There was just no fluidity or cohesion between any of the many theatrical parts we had just seen thrown together on stage.

Not Another Scary Movie!

For lack of something better to write about for this blog entry, I will tell you moviegoers about another scary movie I went to see this weekend, The Fourth Kind. And I will tell you now, DO NOT go to see this movie. It was terrible. I payed to see something I could have watched on TV.
