I think of overweight men and women, extremely loud vocals, the late Luciano Pavarotti, and the Barber of Seville, just to name a few. However, the opera showed me that this presumption is false. The Lincoln Center theatre was absolutely magnificent as were our seats. The entire audience dressed up accommodatingly and respectfully as they were all dressed in suits and dresses. The scenery of the opera was fairly similar throughout but very realistic and believable.

http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/bergman09/content/house-dead-1#comments Bobby Mon, 07 Dec 2009 01:20:42 +0000 b_montoni 454 at http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/bergman09 Independent Event 3: Museum of Art and Design http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/bergman09/content/independent-event-3-museum-art-and-design

http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/bergman09/content/independent-event-3-museum-art-and-design#comments Bobby nyc arts who we are Mon, 07 Dec 2009 00:28:28 +0000 b_montoni 453 at http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/bergman09 Independent Event 2: The Art of Archie http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/bergman09/content/independent-event-2-art-archie

http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/bergman09/content/independent-event-2-art-archie#comments Bobby who we are Sun, 29 Nov 2009 06:14:36 +0000 b_montoni 406 at http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/bergman09 Independent Event 1: The Remains of Romanticism http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/bergman09/content/independent-event-1-remains-romanticism

http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/bergman09/content/independent-event-1-remains-romanticism#comments Bobby who we are Sun, 29 Nov 2009 05:22:47 +0000 b_montoni 405 at http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/bergman09 Alexander String Quartet at the Baruch Performing Arts Center http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/bergman09/content/alexander-string-quartet-baruch-performing-arts-center
I'm not the biggest fan of classical music so I was not enthusiastic about the performance, but I do hold an appreciation and respect for the performers and their abilities to play such difficult music. To me classical music, especially being a string quartet, has a peaceful and soothing sound to it. It places me in a relaxing atmosphere where I can forget about everything and just stare at the performers and follow the bows move against the strings to create the beautiful music.

http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/bergman09/content/alexander-string-quartet-baruch-performing-arts-center#comments baruch Bobby who we are Thu, 19 Nov 2009 05:54:43 +0000 b_montoni 374 at http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/bergman09 MOMA: Demoiselles d'Avignon http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/bergman09/content/moma-demoiselles-davignon
Last Saturday I visited the Museum of Modern Art with a friend from high school to see the Demoiselles d'Avignon. I have to admit, I don't usually go to museums and artistic events with this friend so this was a new experience for the both of us. I did not have too much time to spend so I did not have the chance to see some of the other fascinating things that I passed on my way to Demoiselles d'Avignon. However, it was very fortunate knowing that we would return with our class to discuss some other paintings.

http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/bergman09/content/moma-demoiselles-davignon#comments Bobby painting who we are Thu, 19 Nov 2009 05:23:44 +0000 b_montoni 372 at http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/bergman09 BAM Harvey Theater: Quartett http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/bergman09/content/bam-harvey-theater-quartett
There are many ways to describe my thoughts on the performance at the Harvey Theater, but the words that come to mind are amazing and confusing. I was really intrigued by the performance and the sound effects, which were often startling. If I remember correctly the first thing we hear was an extremely loud screeching sound that made me jump out of my seat. The costumes of the characters also grabbed my attention because of the vibrant colors and pale faces due to some makeup. Each character wore a single color, whether it was purple, green, red, or white.

http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/bergman09/content/bam-harvey-theater-quartett#comments theater who we are Sun, 15 Nov 2009 18:56:51 +0000 b_montoni 348 at http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/bergman09 "City Symphony" in August Rush http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/bergman09/content/city-symphony-august-rush
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9hrDNGmAigU

http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/bergman09/content/city-symphony-august-rush#comments Bobby who we are Wed, 04 Nov 2009 02:31:40 +0000 b_montoni 303 at http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/bergman09 Carnegie Hall: And the List Grows http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/bergman09/content/carnegie-hall-and-list-grows
So today was yet another first as I made my way to Carnegie Hall. It was quite obvious I had never been there as I tried every entrance but the correct one. For class we went to meet Jeremy Geffen, who organizes and selects the performances to be shown at Carnegie Hall. He mentioned to us that he sees hundreds of performances to select from and it takes him a couple of years to completely plan one event.

http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/bergman09/content/carnegie-hall-and-list-grows#comments Bobby who we are Sun, 01 Nov 2009 05:30:43 +0000 b_montoni 282 at http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/bergman09 Reading from the Writer http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/bergman09/content/reading-writer
The last entry I wrote dealt with a presentation about hip hop and how music gives its own "theory of justice". More recently, we were advised to attend a reading by Joseph O'Connor, which allowed me to be able to compare the two different styles and approaches they each took to get their message across. What intrigued me most about O'Connor's reading was his irish accent and witty jokes. He was also pretty direct with how he was going to go about giving his reading, by telling us how long each section would take.

http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/bergman09/content/reading-writer#comments baruch Bobby who we are Sun, 01 Nov 2009 00:57:22 +0000 b_montoni 281 at http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/bergman09
