At the Doris Freedman Plaza

It's difficult if not impossible to walk past Doris Freedman Plaza without stopping or looking back at the two coloful monumental pieces situated at the center of the entrance to the walkway. There is a hotdog vendor right beside them, and another statue across the street. They are surrounded by trees, buildings, cars, and people all around.

The Ego and the Id

It was very intriguing learning about the Ego and the Id. I had never heard of Sigmund Freud's theory before this project. When i first saw the artwork, I immediately noticed how colorful the two objects were. It contrasted so much with the colors of autumn. I still ponder which one is the Ego and which is the Id. I would like to know if the artist himself specifically labeled which is which, or if he just left it up to interpretation. I am pretty sure I will stick with my original belief that the bubblegum pink sculpture is the Ego and the colorful sculpture is the Id.

Additional Thoughts on Coffin's Untitled Sculptures

After presenting information about Peter Coffin's Untitled Sculptures to the class, I had some additional thoughts on the exhibition. Coffin's choice of a construction method of build was significant. In the construction method the sculptor, "is usually concerned more with the definition of space than with the mass, affording experiences quite new in the field," (Taylor 129). In Untitled Sculptures, the definition of space is emphasized. Since the silhouettes are only one inch thick, they lack the volume people associate sculpture with.

And what do the Markers mark?

In the center of a park on crossroad of 23rd Street and Broadway five black and white sculptures stand tall and proud. One, who walks by there on their way to work might never give it any attention, another, who is searching places like this one might be charmed and inspired by it.

Museum of Modern Art

On Friday I went to the Museum of Modern Art for the first time ever. I must say that I will be visiting the MOMA over and over again. I thought it was an amazing museum. I really didn't know what to expect when I walked in. I didn't realize the amound of artwork that was in the museum. Last year in highschool I took a humanities course and it extensively covered all of this artwork. When I went to the fifth floor of the museum I felt like I was inside my textbook from last year. It was actually even better then the book.

Wonderful Window Displays

On Monday night I made my way to the Mac store on 57th and 5th. On my way there, I was simply blown away by all of the displays in the windows of the high end stores in the area.The one display that really stuck in my mind was the display in the windows of Bergdorf Goodman. There were three or four large windows with elaborate portrayals of common fairytale figures. I think my favorite was the window themed for "Princess and the Pea." An oversized mannequin was laying on top of a stack of wildly colored pillows.
