There is nothing better than after a long day of school and/or work than to just go out onto the dance floor and practice with your partner. Through this process of practicing and working out problems in connection between the two bodies, you and your partner become one entity. You form a bond with your partner that cannot be replicated even in a boyfriend-girlfriend relationship.

Gerhard Richter @ Marian Goodman Gallery

The Marian Goodman Gallery of New York City is currently hosting a Gerhard Richter show with a series of oil paintings called 911. Gerhard Richter is a painter who is revolutionary in the same way that Jackson Pollack was for the arts. Pollack began using a drip and splatter technique and at the time, this had never been seen before. In the same way, when Richter unveiled his first paintings, the artistic scene was in awe. He used a technique that smudged and blurred the oil paint colors that he used on the canvas.

Alexander String Quartet @ BPAC

On Monday, November 16th the Alexander String Quartet was playing at Baruch's Performing Arts Center and the Guest artist was the viola player. They played Felix Mendelssohn's String Quartet in A minor and String Quintet in B-flat major and Robert Schumann's String Quartet in A minor. There were four musicians who played together throughout the entire concert.

Gorgia O'Keeffe at the Whitney

Last Friday I went to go see Georgia O'Keeffe's exhibition at the Whitney Museum of American Art. It was fantastic. Earlier that day I had also gone to the Guggenheim to see Kandinsky's display but I found that I could not connect with it as well as I could with O'Keeffe's work. In her collection, the main focus of her paintings were flowers. Sometimes the image would be of a flower explicitly and other times it would be depicting more the essence of what a flower is.

I was walking into the Meet the Artists completely clueless, I have to admit. I had no idea who was performing or what they were going to be doing. So we sat down, there weren't enough seats because we didn't know that we had to rsvp outside from the class but we managed. And then this lady gets up, she had awesome hair, by the way, and she introduces herself as Khadijah Queene and begins to read. She had a very soft voice that sort of flowed over her poems. The piece that stood out to me the most from her was a poem that she said was new and unusual for her.

So when I first started writing this blog entry, it was five in the morning and I had just finished watching the movie "Annie Hall" with Woody Allen and Diane Keaton. It is no longer 5 in the morning and after many technical difficulties I am BACK to write this entry for the LAST time.=) Watching "Annie Hall" made me consider the different mediums through which we are exposed to opposing viewpoints. I realized that humor should be considered an art form. I don't know if it is formally considered one but if it isn't, it should be.

Carnegie Hall

I would love to have more to say about the Carnegie Hall concert, but classical music, although ACJW wasn't exactly classical, is not something that I can relate to or talk much about. I played many musical instruments as a child so I understand musical phrasing and can identify famous classical pieces but every single time that I go to a concert like that I fall asleep. I just cannot relate to that kind of music.
