I saw a painting or two made by a local artist nevertheless it did steer any particular emotions in me. However, today, scoping through one of art albums in a bookstore I came across a painting like nothing I have ever seen before. The painting, Dancing Girls, is made by an Iraqi painter- Hafiz Drubi. It is in a way a representation of Cubism, but in another its opposition.

http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/bergman09/content/dancing-girls#comments painting Patty Mon, 30 Nov 2009 00:23:54 +0000 Patty 419 at http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/bergman09 And what do the Markers mark? http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/bergman09/content/and-what-do-markers-mark

In the center of a park on crossroad of 23rd Street and Broadway five black and white sculptures stand tall and proud. Starting with the theater itself, BAM Harvey Theater, a place so rough and empty. The walls half painted, half bricked. Just by entering the mezzanine, one had the impression of being teleported into a different world. And it was just the begging of the journey.

http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/bergman09/content/dangerous-liaisons-war-lights-and-sexes#comments nyc Patty who we are Sat, 14 Nov 2009 02:04:20 +0000 Patty 338 at http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/bergman09 Poetry: a spoken or written form of art http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/bergman09/content/poetry-spoken-or-written-form-art
Going to the poetry readying at Macaulay, made me realize that poetry readings are more than just reading out a poem. We were presented to 4 different writers; each had their own writing style, each had their own way to present it. What I found interesting that the way we present a poem has to reflect what the poem is about. When the writing reflects grief it cannot be read loudly with a happy intonation. Contrary it has to be presented slowly, with respect to writer’s intention.

http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/bergman09/content/poetry-spoken-or-written-form-art#comments Patty who we are Thu, 12 Nov 2009 02:22:18 +0000 Patty 331 at http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/bergman09 Visit to FIAF: The Great Masters of Lithography http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/bergman09/content/visit-fiaf-great-masters-lithography
Since I went to see this exhibit at the French Institute: Alliance Franciase, I have been asking myself if it is possible that billboards and magazines of our days will in the future become a artwork in itself.

http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/bergman09/content/visit-fiaf-great-masters-lithography#comments nyc arts Patty who we are Tue, 10 Nov 2009 18:55:52 +0000 Patty 328 at http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/bergman09 Oriental spices to classical flavors http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/bergman09/content/oriental-spices-classical-flavors
“Ancient Path Modern Voices” is a festival celebrating Chinese culture organized by Carnegie Hall. Attending it was an experience that changed my perspective on the classical music. I, who am not very fond of traditional music, because as I am not musically educated I do not understand it, liked it. To me, as the music does not have lyrics and most of the time is somewhat slow, it resembles a noise rather than a song. At the same time an oeuvre is not a song but a symphony.

http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/bergman09/content/oriental-spices-classical-flavors#comments concert Patty who we are Mon, 02 Nov 2009 04:53:52 +0000 Patty 298 at http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/bergman09
