This was different from any other event we've attended because we were the featured artists. It was fun to see the photographs that my classmates presented in class be put on display. I was also looking for my photograph in the collection and was excited when I spotted it. The pictures were categorized based on subject. I was surprised to see so many similiar photographs. There were many pictures featuring New York City nightlife. The bright lights, tall buildings, and beautiful landscape was a good depiction of the neighborhood I relate to.

http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/bergman09/content/snaphot-exhibit-macaulay#comments hannah lee nyc arts who we are Sat, 12 Dec 2009 23:19:53 +0000 hlee 473 at http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/bergman09 SNAPSHOT @ Macaulay http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/bergman09/content/snapshot-macaulay-0
Although many people didn’t like the Snapshot day at the Macaulay Honors building, I personally enjoyed it. I had the chance to meet and bond with the initial friends I made in the three orientation days from the different campuses earlier in the year. I do have to agree that the assignment was vague and unclear for some parts; however, it made it more challenging in the sense that we had to use our creativity even more so. We talked for a long time about how everyone was and went straight to work.

http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/bergman09/content/snapshot-macaulay-0#comments nyc nyc arts people and places who we are Fri, 11 Dec 2009 20:32:42 +0000 im.mattlaw 471 at http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/bergman09 Art for the Community http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/bergman09/content/art-community

http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/bergman09/content/art-community#comments baruch nyc arts painting people and places whitney Fri, 11 Dec 2009 18:06:34 +0000 whitney.porter 469 at http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/bergman09 The Metropolitan Opera: House of The Dead http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/bergman09/content/metropolitan-opera-house-dead
Before entering the Metropolitan Theatre, I was excited because this was my first opera as to the many first time events I have been to in our IDC class. I loved the atmosphere from the outside being very grand to inside being cozy as well as luxurious. The theatre was packed and our seats were considerably nice. The opera began instantaneously; it took me by surprise even when I was looking at the stage the whole time. The curtains went up immediately and it began with a very gray and dark stage, where I only saw the glimpse of a few prisoners for the first few moments.

http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/bergman09/content/metropolitan-opera-house-dead#comments nyc arts who we are writing Mon, 07 Dec 2009 01:49:07 +0000 im.mattlaw 456 at http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/bergman09 Independent Event 3: Museum of Art and Design http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/bergman09/content/independent-event-3-museum-art-and-design

http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/bergman09/content/independent-event-3-museum-art-and-design#comments Bobby nyc arts who we are Mon, 07 Dec 2009 00:28:28 +0000 b_montoni 453 at http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/bergman09 Thoughts about The House of the Dead Opera http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/bergman09/content/thoughts-about-house-dead-opera
By class time on Wednesday, I had only read a portion of Dostoevsky's The House of the Dead. After reading this much of the novel, I was very interested to see how the story would transfer onto stage. It was very difficult to imagine how Janacek could possibly transform this story into an opera. The performance was not at all what I had anticipated based on my prior knowledge of the opera. In class, Professor Bergman mentioned that we might find ourselves waiting for the song to start, and I caught myself doing this just a few minutes into the performance.

http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/bergman09/content/thoughts-about-house-dead-opera#comments nyc arts theater whitney Sun, 06 Dec 2009 22:29:23 +0000 whitney.porter 448 at http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/bergman09 Metropolitan Museum visit #3 (excluding visits in IDC) http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/bergman09/content/metropolitan-museum-visit-3-excluding-visits-idc
On Friday, I went to the Metropolitan Museum of Art to see the New American Wing. I remember going there before and liking it, but when I went to see the redone exhibit, I was amazed at how it turned out. It looked like a courtyard, with a fountain and sculptures, leading to two old-fashioned electric lights, leading down to some steps, leading down to a facade of what appears to be a mansion. Inside the "mansion", there were various rooms like those of the wealthy in the 18th and 19th centuries.

http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/bergman09/content/metropolitan-museum-visit-3-excluding-visits-idc#comments MET nyc nyc arts painting sculpture who we are Sun, 06 Dec 2009 19:23:07 +0000 Alex Greetham 446 at http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/bergman09 My thoughts on the House of the Dead Opera http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/bergman09/content/my-thoughts-house-dead-opera
I thought the opera was okay. I was a bit dull, but then again, the story is supposed to be depressing, and the sets really showed that. The dominant color was drab gray, the most depressing color in my opinion. And the music was certainly more modern than what I'm used to in opera, when I see works such as die Zauberflote (The Magic Flute by Mozart) or der Fleidermaus (The Bat by Johann Strauss II) which have more old-fashioned music, that is, 18th and 19th century music.

http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/bergman09/content/my-thoughts-house-dead-opera#comments nyc nyc arts who we are Sun, 06 Dec 2009 18:55:38 +0000 Alex Greetham 445 at http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/bergman09 The House of the Dead Opera http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/bergman09/content/house-dead-opera-2
The House of the Dead opera was the first opera I have ever seen. I have listened to opera music before and have always heard about opera but never experienced it for myself. When I think of opera I think of big people singing extremely loud. I picture those people that can hold a glass and make it break with their voices. All of this is silly and very stereotypical when it comes to opera. The House of the Dead was not what I expected to see. I am glad that it was not what I expected. I think this added to my experience.

http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/bergman09/content/house-dead-opera-2#comments nyc nyc arts people and places Sun, 06 Dec 2009 16:06:27 +0000 Michelle Ranello 444 at http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/bergman09 Grand DanceSport Cup http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/bergman09/content/grand-dancesport-cup
When dancing, you are free to let go of all your stresses and paint a picture with your body and feet. That is the reason I dance and the reason I love it so much. There is nothing better than after a long day of school and/or work than to just go out onto the dance floor and practice with your partner. Through this process of practicing and working out problems in connection between the two bodies, you and your partner become one entity. You form a bond with your partner that cannot be replicated even in a boyfriend-girlfriend relationship.

http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/bergman09/content/grand-dancesport-cup#comments dance jolene nyc arts who we are Mon, 30 Nov 2009 06:44:20 +0000 Jolene 431 at http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/bergman09
