As soon as i arrived, there was a general feeling of being lost and purposelessness at the college. Many people had not arrived, and the general sense of the event was a "do it and go" kinda of thing. Therefore, I grouped up with my friends that I knew, made a small group and started filming random photographs that we liked.

http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/bergman09/content/snapshot-0#comments laura nyc people and places Mon, 14 Dec 2009 00:27:50 +0000 Laura Abreu 477 at http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/bergman09 The House really was Dead. http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/bergman09/content/house-really-was-dead
I had very high expectations for House of the Dead at the Metropolitan Opera this Wednesday. However, the opera didn't exactly meet my expectations. Although I fully understood that the style of the book is dreary and uneventful in itself, I thought the opera would be somewhat more lively. I expected the acting and singing to bring excitement to the story of the House of the Dead. Apparently, these were not the intentions of the opera itself. All throughout, mostly everything about the opera was very bleak and monotonous.

http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/bergman09/content/house-really-was-dead#comments laura who we are Sun, 06 Dec 2009 22:47:58 +0000 Laura Abreu 449 at http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/bergman09 Ind Event #4: American Folk Art Museum http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/bergman09/content/ind-event-4-american-folk-art-museum
Recently, me and a few of my idc colleagues went on a visit to see the Tim Burton exhibit at the MoMA during our extensive Tuesday break. After journeying to the MoMA, we arrive to see a nice sign outside the museum saying that it was closed. We were very disappointed, but we were there to go to a museum and we were going to get it. We ended up at the American Folk Art museum, not very far away and luckily got inside for free although they were giving us a hard time with our cultural passports.

http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/bergman09/content/ind-event-4-american-folk-art-museum#comments laura who we are Sun, 06 Dec 2009 22:01:45 +0000 Laura Abreu 447 at http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/bergman09 Independent Event #2: Wintuk http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/bergman09/content/independent-event-2-wintuk
Yesterday, I went to see Cirque Du Soleil's Wintuk at Madison Square Garden. I had very high expectations for this show, this being my fifth time seeing Cirque and having been so impressed by the quality of all their other shows. Furthermore, my and my mom had been wanting to see this show since last year, and the anticipation made me want to see it even more. In addition, the advertising for Wintuk was heavy.

http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/bergman09/content/independent-event-2-wintuk#comments laura theater Sun, 29 Nov 2009 21:17:19 +0000 Laura Abreu 410 at http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/bergman09 A Quartett at Baruch http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/bergman09/content/quartett-baruch
I was surprised to find that in Baruch there existed an elevator that only went downwards into the basement which contains nothing more than our own performance space! It really is a breath of fresh air to see some kind of artistic endeavor being pursued at a predominantly business orientated school. The space is gorgeous too. I was impressed by the white washed wall that had quotes about music all alongside it.

http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/bergman09/content/quartett-baruch#comments baruch laura Mon, 23 Nov 2009 05:56:49 +0000 Laura Abreu 396 at http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/bergman09 Museum of Art and Design: Slash! http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/bergman09/content/museum-art-and-design-slash-0

http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/bergman09/content/museum-art-and-design-slash-0#comments laura nyc arts who we are Mon, 16 Nov 2009 02:24:31 +0000 Laura Abreu 354 at http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/bergman09 "Cancer mon amour" http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/bergman09/content/cancer-mon-amour
When I left the Harvey theater after seeing Quartett, my emotions were of a mixed miriad. I didn't really know what to think and how to possibly start dissecting the many frustrating aspects of Quartett. This was the general response form my peers as well, in face, no one knew how to interpret or understand what they had just seen. There was just no fluidity or cohesion between any of the many theatrical parts we had just seen thrown together on stage.

http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/bergman09/content/cancer-mon-amour#comments laura nyc nyc arts theater Mon, 16 Nov 2009 01:31:19 +0000 Laura Abreu 353 at http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/bergman09 Not Another Scary Movie! http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/bergman09/content/not-another-scary-movie
For lack of something better to write about for this blog entry, I will tell you moviegoers about another scary movie I went to see this weekend, The Fourth Kind. I was quite happy to find that Macaulay common events were not as conservative as I previously thought. It was refreshing to see and hear a young group of people express themselves through poetry, and it was an event that was very contrasting to any other Macaulay event we've ever been to. Overall, the experience was good.

http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/bergman09/content/common-event-poetry#comments baruch laura who we are writing Mon, 09 Nov 2009 03:44:43 +0000 Laura Abreu 321 at http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/bergman09 Carnegie Hall: Meeting and ACJW Concert http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/bergman09/content/carnegie-hall-meeting-and-acjw-concert
When I stepped into the Carnegie Hall conference room where our IDC class was to meet the Artistic Director at Carnegie Hall, I was truly grateful to be part of the compilation of Macaulay honors Students. It is an honor that really is a privilege to have. It is incredible to me that we are able to have a formal meeting with no other than the artistic director of one of the most prestigious artistic performance halls there is in NYC. Carnegie Hall has worldwide fame, and here we were, a group of Baruch freshman, at a conference table with a man of tremendous status.

http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/bergman09/content/carnegie-hall-meeting-and-acjw-concert#comments laura nyc arts Mon, 02 Nov 2009 04:15:23 +0000 Laura Abreu 295 at http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/bergman09
