The original train station was constructed in 1907 along the BMT line. In the early nineteenth century the area was populated by a combination of Italian and Polish immigrants, as evidence points to Roman Catholic churches in the neighborhood. The area retains its Catholic churches, however most of the patrons now are of West Indian decent. The neighborhood itself is primarily residential, but has a commercial distract running adjacent to Flatbush Avenue.

http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/brooks10/beverley#comments Q train stop Sun, 11 Apr 2010 19:30:22 +0000 Ilyas Frenkel 184 at http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/brooks10 Eminent Domain http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/brooks10/node/152
“The menace of the slums” was “a matter of far-reaching public concern.” This civil court case in 1936 allowed for the WPA and NYCHA to use eminent domain to forever change the urban landscape of the city.

http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/brooks10/node/152#comments Wed, 24 Mar 2010 01:55:44 +0000 Ilyas Frenkel 152 at http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/brooks10 A little extra photo taking I did. http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/brooks10/node/91
These are some photos I took at Art Basel In Miami.

Kehinde Wiley's "Equestrian Portrait of King Philip II"

and the second picture I can't remember the artist but it is definitely from the same gallery.

http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/brooks10/node/91#comments Sun, 07 Mar 2010 22:16:15 +0000 Ilyas Frenkel 91 at http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/brooks10 Music is in the air! http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/brooks10/node/90

http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/brooks10/node/90#comments Sun, 07 Mar 2010 22:00:18 +0000 Ilyas Frenkel 90 at http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/brooks10 Man About Town, Exploring Chinatown http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/brooks10/node/23

2008 by Neil Takemoto in New York's Chinatown

http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/brooks10/node/23#comments Wed, 17 Feb 2010 04:02:16 +0000 Ilyas Frenkel 23 at http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/brooks10
