From The Peopling of New York City
The second largest part within the five boroughs, Flushing Meadows Corona Park has seen two World's Fairs (1939 and 1964). Transformed from the Corona Ash Heaps immortalized in F. Scott Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby, for the 1939 World's Fair, it is the second largest public park in New York City (after Central Park) and spans a 1,255.
It contains the Queens Zoo, The New York Hall of Science,The Queens Museum of Art, The Unisphere, and an ice skating rink. The northern end of the park houses Shea Stadium (unfortunately, soon to be Citi Field).
The 7 train's Willets Point/Shea Stadium station services the park. However, to get to the New York Hall of Science or the Queens Zoo, it is easier to take the 7 to 111st Street.
