From The Peopling of New York City

Noelia is a freshman student at The City College of New York. She is a part of the Macaulay Honors College, a distinguished program for hard-working students. During her first semester she studied Architecture, but has recently decided to explore Environmental Science instead. Noelia greatly enjoys volunteer work, especially after her trip to New Orleans, Louisiana, where she helped residents rebuild their homes, which were destroyed by Hurricane Katrina.

Noelia is very excited to be attending college in New York City. She is originally from Haverstraw, NY, a small historical village of Rockland County. Haverstraw was known for its brick-making in the earlier 20th century and has contributed towards the construction of many brick buildings in New York City. Noelia attened North Rockland High School in Thiells, NY. There she particpated in many activities such as ASPIRA, a club that promotes Latino youth leadership, and the Asian Culture Club. Sports played a major part in her life. She was a competitive gymnast for seven years, training at the Rockland Gymnastics Academy in Nanuet, NY. In addition she competed in crew, swimming, and diving. She was made captain of her high school's crew team, as well as the swimming and diving team during her senior year.
